retrofitting tailpocket with side-velcros-ears
hi! any riggers here?
i got this old mojo, it has one of the old type tailpockets, where the side-velcros are stitched to the base of the tailpocket. which is a pain in the ass when replacing them, and its not that neat and clean to pack.
so i was thinking about retrofitting the side velcros and webbing ears to the sides of the tailpocket (like on both of my trolls, and i think every other canopy manufactured in the last few years).
i thought the easy way would be just removing the side-velcros, and sewing the new webbing ears on onto the tailpocket, (through the topskin, by overstitching the seam that holds the tailpocket on the topskin).
well, first, can overstitching become a problem because of perforating and therefore weakening the webbing-topskin-tailpocket joint?
second, on all my canopies the stitching on the sides of the tailpocket are not going all the way to the trailing edge of the canopy, there is a bit less than 1" spacing between the end of the straight stitch on the side and the bartack on the trailing edge. (see pictures, i know, this tailpocket has those "ears")
by just sewing the ears on this way, i would have to stitch 1/2" closer to the trailing edge. (im not really happy with that...)
the other way would be opening the stitching on the side of the tailpocket, adding the ears, and sew it back on.
i know, i know, maybe i should give it to a someone else, but im curious.
take care
