Re: [TreeRat] BASE #
I think its a personal thing but its different for everyone. For me it wasnt so much getting the number, but the accomplishment of qualifying for it.

Don't know about Bridge Day but regarding KL I can say with utmost certainty that it is not. :)

I have all my objects.....video of most a couple times over....The journey was mine and the friends I chose to be with.....If a base # would help open more objects it might excite me more i guess....

Re: [TreeRat] BASE #
for some, it's a hearty journey to simply earn their social security number. everyone is a number somewhere. only a few are self chosen categories.

all my friends were doing it, so i got a BASE number too. i don't regret it. in fact, it means next to nothing itself... but it also doesn't hurt anyone or anything by taking the 5 minutes to send a letter and sharing your experience with someone that was there from the start.

just another number, but it's mine... in its own special way.Smile

On a more serious note I agree with Blitzkrieg/

I like that. Smile

I am proud of my BASE # and D #, earning
those were unique accomplishments for me.

FYI - I have been to BD & KL without a BASE
number, the former I think wants 100+ skydives
and the latter wants around 100 BASE jumps.

Re: [GreenMachine] BASE #

First, it should be WHEN not IF, both events rock!!

Second, both events require prior registration,
the process is slightly different for each but
really pretty straight forward. And yes, there
are times when an organizer will ask you for
a credable reference.

Re: [TreeRat] BASE #
Believe me, back when all this started, there were plenty of us "Night Ninja's" around and we all really believed in our BASE numbers. It was the start of a new wierd sort of family. These aren't numbers someone else lays on you, they are unique self chosen numbers that link us all into a very exclusive club started by some great friends of mine like Carl Boenish and my Houston jump buddy, Phil Smith who earned BASE 1 in 1981. I like some of my self chosen and self earned numbers like BASE, D license, SCR, NSCR, etc. They are much more meaningful to me than my SS number I can tell you that. Personal choice obviously, but so far I've never heard of a very good reason not to want a BASE number if you've jumped the 4 kinds of objects designed to gain a pretty full array of BASE jump experience. Besides, it's fun to explain to whuffos, even as long as I've been around. Good luck and there's one waiting for you if you'd like to share the same pages as those who decided this crazy magnificant activity could be a sort of sport for the very select few.

You really think you have more dead friends than me pilgrim...I have so many dead friends that I get sponsored by a funeral home... I got so many dead friends that when someone dials the wrong number to me, a dead friends name will show up at the display.....I got so many dead friends that I get nightmares...I got so many dead friends that I warmed up for the Jim Carroll band...I got so many dead friends that Operahs producer invited me...but he died....I got so many dead friends that I see dead people....I got so many dead friends that when I meet someone who is alive I give them the crazy eyes...I got so many dead friends that the coroner lets me cool sixpacks till next time.

Thank you and fuck you
