Dubai jumpers
I have done a quick search and the last post is dated May 09.

I am looking for any active locals to hook up with for a jump or 2.
I will be returning there this Friday until early January.
I will have a rig and weather permitting I intend to jump.
I have found a B that looks like work has stopped around the corner from my hotel not the tallest but very low profile and intend to start off jumping that.
So is there anyone around or is it solo's only for me?

on that note, i am trying to help organize an event in dubai... if anyone has any connection to someone affiliated with any of; FAI, Fazza, dubai sports council, EAA or anyone else that could help point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. i just listed those guys because they are all putting on a skydiving contest and figured they would be most interested in hearing about a BASE event. i would really like to get something rolling so pm me if you have anything for me!Smile

For the right event (building characteristics, number of jumping days, cost, what is asked of the jumpers, etc..) I would go to Dubai, although my liver would be a little confused LaughLaughLaugh.

Hey thanks for the PM's (nothing from you Ronald?)

I am working with an event company on a non BASE related project but we have chatted and they are also keen on setting up a BASE event.
I am working with UK Pro BASE on the insurance/H&S side and will keep you all posted if anything is likely to come out of it.

Why would your liver be confused? Dubai isn't a dry country. Crazy

Really? I thought I remembered someone telling me it was dry. But I'd rather be wrong in this instance Wink

The climate is quite arid yes. They do have alcohol available if you feel the urge. It's ok to wear a thobe and ghutra if you choose as well, but it's absolutely not acceptable if you're drinking.

Can you really drink in Dubai or do they just cut your head off? I know that it's a no no is Saudi Arabia.

Re: [skydivewytse] Dubai jumpers
There are plenty of bars ad restaurants in Dubai that any non-muslim (and a few muslims tbh) can drink in, it actually has a fairly buzzing night life! They seem to realize that with such a low percentage of people in Dubai actually being locals they financially need the expats and tourism. You may want to avoid ramadan though, while you can still drink there's no live (or loud) music allowed, you can't smoke in public etc etc.

On the other hand, you can't buy alcohol from off-licenses unless you work there as you need an alcohol license (passport type book). Basically they give you an allowance based on your salary (I guess the more you earn the more stressed you must be?!?) an you have to get your license stamped every time you buy to stop you going over your limit.

OH and watch out for the pork sections in supermarkets - that always made me laugh when I was there!

BTW - I wouldn't like to get caught doing anything illegal in Dubai... are you trying to make this event legal?

Just to set the record straight. I am a long way off form anything formal. I have had a couple of informal chats and will give them a promo pack from Uk pro base. I will also try to set up meeting with anyone and everyone who me be of some use.
I am here for 6 weeks so fingers crossed I can make some headway but as I said I am miles away from an event.

i have been working on getting an event set up here for a while now... unfortunately all of my contacts are here and visit there only so often... let me know how things go and maybe we can all collaborate to set something up! the more we can get on our side the better chances we have of making it work i feel!
