Risers
Why is the white loop still used? Are there not better/more durable materials that could be used?

Re: [udder] Risers
Sure, we could use multiple layers
heavy duty kevlar material but that
would only add to the cost & weight.

Due to a mechanical advantage the
white string and yellow thing take
very little stress.

Kind of the opposite of how a series
of pulleys can allow you to pick up
a lot of weight.

The reason "white loop", I'm assuming you're refering to the material, is used today is the same reason it's been used for the last 30 years. It lets go when you want it too. Or at least it does that better then any thing else we've found. What you're refering to is the sheath of gutted type 3 line. Frankly it's not very strong but it's not under a great load. It's chosen solely for it's flexability. In the past heavier lines were used but they were found to be too stiff and tended to cause the riser to hang up. For our application we could probbably use a resen coated 825 lb spector line perticuarly with an integerty riser where the loop is short and straight. Or if you're just looking for a way to replace risers just go with L-bars and skip all the three ring bs.

Have you had a problem with the white loops being not durable?

Yup. Just about to buy one set of risers for the base rig, and one for the skydiving rig. Both as a result of an excessively worn white loop/s. Fuck.

integrity risers?

why is your white loop getting worn so badly?

Re: [460] Risers
Grommetosis is the likely cause.

Re: [base283] Risers
grommetosis sounds like it could be fatal.

I have integrated risers so not an issue for me....
but how would that damage the white string??

Re: [GreenMachine] Risers
With Integrity risers, it's no issue. With standard, if the risers are tied together, the rings can lay on the ground. Thus the white loop is on the ground as well. It's still usually not a problem but it's possible to drag the loop across the ground while dragging the container. Try it with your skydiving rig so you can see what I mean.

The type 2A usually don't wear but when it does, that has been a cause.
