Re: [kiwibaser] Crazy
What would qualify him for such award? He used a proven technique with proven gear and he has enough skill/knowledge to stay head high, get control of the canopy, flare, and stand up the landing with a a nice woo whoo at the end. It is low, I'll give you that, but its not Darwin material. Just remember that most people would like to think all BASE jumpers are crazy for jumping at all, hell skydivers look at us differently. Good work for stealing VERY little altitude Russian Jumper with Pink Canopy.

Re: [nicrussell] Crazy
From what I have been told:
1. he made that canopy himself
2. it has no bottom skin .. how good is that in turbulence?
3. it took him like 3-4 jumps to brake his leg

if that info is correct .. experimenting like that is not a smart thing i guess

if that info is all wrong I'll apologize for not double-checking it
Cool

You would absolutely hate the experimenting I've done skydiving.

Stay inside the box. Do not color outside the lines. Stay on the main road at all times. Keep hands and feet inside the ride at all times. No trespassing.

Ok, I must add to my original comment.

1: That's quite brilliant if he made it himself. I have a couple jumps on a home designed and built canopy. It actually worked. The person who made it sewed it together in his kitchen before he even had 50 jumps.

2: One example. I've jumped (skydived, not base) a paradactyl which also has no bottom skin. It still gets jumped fairly regular.

3: FYI, it's break, not brake. I'm sure he wasn't pleased.

Experimenting is great. Where do you think your gear came from? Stoner rigger dudes are the ones who progressed skydiving. BASE was advanced pretty much the same way.

so how high is that bridge ?!

Re: [hookitt] Crazy
Hey don't get me wrong I wasn't trying to insult the guy or something, I just would hate it if he gets seriously hurt. I also think its amazing he made that parachute himself.
But if there was water underneath, that would be a much more clever way of testing a home made base parachute.
I very much appreciate people taking calculated risks (doing experiments) in order to make others life better, but something tells me that's just not the case here.
I can't really call those jumps as carefully planed experiments made for others good (don't think he is inventing anything new there) , looks more like jackass stuff and I have done lots of that (thank God still alive) and see no more point in it.
Some people skydive and base jump in order to get scared (wow I'm still alive!Crazy), not me, for me it's the beauty and freedom of "flight".
