don't know about clamps but TSA will not let you on with a stake/nail. just check it. a 5 min trip to home depot will get you 4 new clamps and a 12" nail for under $6 if they lose your bag

They'll confiscate stakes of any sort. Everything else I've ever carried on (which is pretty much every conceivable packing tool) has made it.

If you want to skip bringing packing tools to Twin Falls, I've got several extra sets sitting around there, and you're welcome to just use one while you're in town.

buy knitting needles. they for some reason in all of their brilliance over at TSA seam to think that they are safe. if you get a sturdy one it would work fine, they have short ones too.

Hey you should start packing whitout any tools...
Less problems...
Less moving parts...
Less things to forget...
Less things to carry...
And then you can start packing right away at a landing area

Its handy Smile

I can jump ALL my packing tools. 2 small clamps and p/u cord, OR one clamp and one p/u cord if I'm being low weight. Tongue

The fucked up thing about TSA is they wont let you take any thing on board that might be used as a weapon, but when you fly in first class the airline gives you a metal knife, fork and spoon with your dinner. DUHHH!!!!!

Last time I was at the airport waiting to go through security, there was a pilot in front of me and a flight attendant behind me. When the pilot went through I thought they were gonna strip this guy down before letting him through. I turned to the flight attendant and told her and the people behind her, that TSA is a joke, cause they are worried that the pilot might be carrying a weapon,,,,Then I said,"Hell he's the driver" if he wants to kill people all he has to do is crash the damn thing into something., they laughed!!!

TSA is a JOKE!!! Tongue

i was wearing a leatherman on my belt as i approached the xray line. as i took my belt off, i realized my knife was still there. rather than throw it out, or get out of line and go return it to my car, i just stuck it in my bag, figured i'd see if it got through. keep in mind i did this as i was placing my belongings on the conveyor belt to be xrayed. leatherman skeletool went through in my computer bag, no problems. newark airport, however, did ask me what the packing clamps were for. gotta love our national security. a leatherman and the proper motivation can pretty much dismantle a plane.
