sail slider experiences?
im looking for any experience with sail sliders on terminal cliffs, to mitigate opening shock wearing cameras.

heading shouldnt be much of an issue..

I jumped a sail slider twice in BASE, west coast A&E. The purpose was to mitigate the opening because of a sore back. Should be fine, but consider pitching slightly higher.

you should also ask what he is doing also besides putting a camera on the head.
say's he is considering Sail-Slider for big wall. Is he WS . or what ever else ?
.
Not doing a bitch post here but since when is Heading never a problem ? also consider the main purpose of design of the Sail slider.
Hey, ever have a ' Snivel ' using Big-Mesh Slider-Up pack job on a Big wall, big Delay jump ? Buddy that is the time you will wish you never put that Sail Slider on.

On second thought, you're gonna die. Cool

Dialing in your packjob, pilot chute size and deployment position are important.

Training your neck/back muscles is also a good idea.

For heavy setups i have also used a neck brace.

But you could also look at having a custom slider made up that is part sail part mesh...

Re: [avenfoto] sail slider experiences?
I've never used one off a cliff, but I have taken a sail slider off a 2000' A six times, two with a Flik 293 and four with an Ace 310. My delays varied from 7sec to 12sec. It opened softly every time, but the heading performance has been very inconsistent, 2 0nheading, 1 90 off, and 3 180s.

I used a "big" double layer small mesh slider for about 80 jumps on a troll. It worked perfect for me. Send Stane a mail, and ask him about the slider he made for me. Can not remember one off heading more than a 90 on those jumps.

Re: [avenfoto] sail slider experiences?
After breaking my back , I ran a sail slider for a few years when guiding down south(about 25-30 jumps). I had excellent heading performance and only one real extra-extra snivel. Never any line twist, and plenty of soft openings.
I packed with the nose wrapped around the packjob slider-down style. Your mileage may vary. Normally on this object, as the canyon is very narrow at the bottom, you would track closer to the wall on the opposite side........... then turning 180 to orient yourself back to the LZ, heading performance was normally not to important. Line twist would be disastrous.
Just my .02 cents

Re: [basehoundsam] sail slider experiences?
The other thing to note here is that opening speed with a sail slider is very canopy dependent.

I own factory sail sliders for both my Dagger 244 and Fox 245, the idea being that it's nice to get current on classic accuracy with a bunch of skydives before heading someplace with a tight landing area.

The Dagger still opens quickly with the sail slider. The Fox sometimes slows down enough that you want to start pulling on things with a 2500' skydiving opening altitude and I wouldn't think about using it on a BASE jump.

Finding out how your canopy behaves out of a plane would be a fine idea if you want to try the sail slider.

IIRC, basehoundsam jumps a bunch of Daggers in various sizes.
