I sent the footage clip to several local jumpers.

TK did not open up the buildings in Honolulu.

There is one local Hawaii jumper I know who taught me about respect the locals, respect the object.

I can understand wanting fame, but a week from now the only people who will remember you are a few people on this forum and possibly the management of that hotel and every hotel near it that's high enough to jump off. Just in case I'm wrong though, feel free to post pictures of all the hot chicks, or dudes if that's your thing, that you laid because they saw you BASE jump on the local news.

Hey everyone, I am sure you know who this is by the name. I feel I have to comment on this, because of all the death threats/wishes I have been receiving.

Look I can understand that you all are pissed I can understand that, because if someone intentionally or unintentionally burned our sites I would be just as pissed as you all are. I am not here to try to justify what occurred, but I am here to clarify what had happened.

I just returned from a three month trip to China about 3-4 days ago, and on Monday this guy from the local news station contacted the DZ and asked about BASE jumping. Of course my father (the DZO) who knows nothing about the sport gave the news agency my name, among others. In order to keep the news agency from contacting or trying to contact the other jumpers that my father mentioned, I decided to see what they wanted.

The guy on the end of the line, Tim Sakahara, who did most of the talking on the three minute story, talked briefly about a video he saw on Youtube. That video was my video, but he did not know it at the time. He said he was doing a story on extreme sports in Hawaii such as: Big-Wave Riding, Paragliding, BASE Jumping, etc., he asked if I had seen the video on Youtube, and I said yes. Eventually after he asked me if I knew the people in the video, I told him that it was my video. He asked if I would briefly comment on the sport, I said yes, but I wouldn’t tell him who was in the video, or some of those kinds of details. I also asked that my name be limited to “TK”.

So the next day he showed up did a quick interview, and asked if I could pack a parachute for the camera (which was my Xaos27, not my base canopy). He asked me a few questions such as, “Why do you base jump,” “Are you crazy,” “When did you start,” “Have you ever been scared of injury/death,” “How did you start,” and “BASE jumping is rare and very few people do it, why is it such a small community?” – Those are the ones that stick out in my mind anyway.

I answered those questions; the answers on the interview were in response to those questions. The answer I gave to the first one is where he edited out the “Climax” shit that I said. The response I gave to the fourth one was how he got the “I know for a fact we won’t stop jumping” bit. The last part about the stupid ghost shit was in response to that last question (I know, I know, “Ninjas” not ghosts) about BASE jumping being rare. So my words were twisted around (I sound like an arrogant dumbass) all the shit about the building sites and stuff I guess he did his own research on and commented on it.

So I feel like yeah I got used, and I understand you all are angry, because yeah it is BASE 101 to not burn shit. I didn’t think by giving those comments shit would burn, and the video, well, it has been on youtube for a few months now, and I am not even seen jumping in the video which is another thing that my “buddy” Tim stated in error. Its just my video, but it’s a video of my friends jumping.

So yeah be pissed at me, yeah I fked up. I shouldn’t have talked at all, and maybe he wouldn’t have had a story to tell. I was under the impression he was going to run my video clips with other sports and talk about the sports, not Just BASE and not the legality, sites, and etc. etc. etc.

But looking at where you all are from, most of you don’t seem to be from Hawaii or Hawaii jumpers. So I doubt you know what buildings these are and how low they are. These aren’t great jumps and out of the three buildings shown in the video, I opened up two. At least I don’t know of anyone else jumping them before me, if you did please tell me when. Of course me opening up the building doesn’t give me the right to burn it for everyone else, but that was in response to you guys asking if I opened them or not. The Ala Moana Hotel, the one that got burnt the worst is the one I didn’t open up, nor have I jumped from it, and now I am going to have to wait for it to cool off to do it, or maybe I won’t get to ever at all. Its burnt now, but those of you that know Hawaii, know that it takes a lot to get our shit to burn forever. The only building that is burnt forever is probably the Hilton here, but that was from the last generation of jumpers.

Anyway, I hope that clarifies things a bit and I don’t want you all to stop being pissed. I just hope that as a community of people that I thought was supposed to be there for each other, you guys will stop telling me I am going to die, that’s, in my opinion, more childish and stupid then my mistake.

Also, since this came up: Yes I attended USMA, but I am no longer at the academy, nor am I an active service member. I found out that I did not have the dedication to duty it takes to make it through the academy, nor as an enlisted soldier in the United States Army. Those of you that serve, I thank you for allowing me to live free.

If you all have any real questions to ask, feel free, but please don’t spread hatred. Those of you that did, please don’t come and try to jump my sites, the ones you know about and even the ones you don’t, you aren’t welcome in Hawaii.

- I'm kinda shocked this has not happened more often. With all the videos out there, we could easily have had more reporters tracking jumpers down. Maybe it's a new trend. You are at least the second person this year that has received unwanted attention for posting video online. (Obviously, if you don't desire the attention, don't post the videos.)

let me clarify something TK- i moved from hawaii december of 08 to join the military, im now back on the mainland. im very farmiliar with both dropzones though i chose to jump at pacific

i have been on the corner of that B as well as another on multiple occasions, probably before you "opened" "your" hawaiian sites, and ive also flicked local earth on another island. so dont go thinking that you own these sites dood.

You think I haven't been to "Other Islands". I may not have Hawaiian blood in me, but I did grow up here, and at the DZ.

I already have had enough grief from the BASE jumpers that I actually care about here, but it is ok. Those guys actually know the situation fully and have told me what I need to be told. I know why you choose to jump at Pacific, but you don't have that choice anymore, stay at Pacific whenever you come around.

I never said I owned the sites, if you read what I wrote, I said that I know I have no rights to any site, even the ones I open up. Sure you have been to Ala Moana, I didn't open that one up, its been around for quite some time. Sure you been to the other islands sites; its the Aloha spirit that let you go.

But it is also apparent that you are just a haole, trying to make yourself feel important in Hawaii.

I'm sure TK's a good kid and it sounds like he's learned a lot from this situation, BUT that doesn't change the fact that some harm has been done to the BASE community. The amount of bandit jumping footage that's freely available on the interweb is growing larger every day & it seems like newer jumpers especially can't resist the urge to put up videos & show them to the world. This kind of thing just invites the media and authorities in to see what we're doing & the more they know, whether location/site specific or not, the harder it's going to be for the every other jumper out there to keep getting away with it.

NEVER FORGET that our ability to jump many of these objects today relies on our BASE ancestors taking measures to ensure that they weren't burnt yesterday! Treat your objects like our future depends on it, because it does.

Keep your video to yourself and your fellow jumpers & never trust the media unless they're willing to give you COMPLETE editorial control & the jump you're making is perfectly legal!

You know, I had two B's in my city opened and now both aren't jumpable anymore. One got burned by "the asshole newbies" (who are actually good guys, just got caught in the wrong situation) and the other they changed the easily accesible door. Sure I was a bit upset at first, but then I started to realize, we are all out there trying to live and have fun. I have to say that some credit should be given that this 19 year old kid (BTW, we jump with a 19 year old who is as heads up and mature as the rest of us, so age is not always important) came on here and stood up for his fuck up. He could have gotten on here and told all of us to go fuck ourselves or ignore it all together, but he didn't, he addressed this problem and took credit for his blunder. Not to say I agree with what you did, TK, but objects come and go, and anyone who gets all bent out of shape about it to the point of death threats just needs to get their monistat and get out and do a jump. I'm in Moab right now, and there is plenty to jump out here still...

thats foolish... there are people out there trying to enjoy the sport and make progress in the relationship between the public/objects and us then someone comes along trying to show how cool they are and take it back to the beginning and negate all of the progress we have made... i think thats bullshit!

Whatever man. The kid messed up. I think everyone (myself included) has or will "burn" something at some point. Just because you weren't on the news or chased by the cops doesn't mean someone didn't see you. There are a ton of jumpers in the world and the more something gets jumped, the more the general population will witness it. It's only a matter of time before one of those people looking out their window is a building engineer, security guard, uptight resident, worried mother or any other sort of person who will make enough noise to get a door locked, a camera put up, razor wire strung, or more guards hired. Yeah, it's a REALLY bad idea to put sensitive, recognizable jumps on websites (including this one), but the real arsemouth in this situation is the reporter, who obviously baited the kid into saying what he wanted and VERY selectively edited the interview; but hey, that's what reporters do. The big lesson to learn from this is: unless you grew up together, went to high school together and banged the same cheerleaders together, DO NOT TALK TO REPORTERS. Their sole objective is to make stories which will keep people watching their show through the commercials. It is standard practice for them to lie. Keep that in mind when you are trying to set the record straight about "lunatic BASE jumpers" or having a "death wish." All of your sensible comments are going straight to the cutting room floor and you will sound exactly the way they want you to. In any case, with a few exceptions, I doubt if any of the people who fragged this kid would have ever set eyes on these buildings. The great thing about buildings is they're always making more, and the new ones are usually taller...

this isnt really a sport designed for messing up to much... im not worried about someone looking to promote the sport, he just didnt do it in a responsible way... without mentioning these things one would never understand that. good for him for reevaluating what he did, but it still sets back the work we are doing to legitimize this sport so that it has less severe legal issues for those of us who enjoy the sport responsibly. wasnt trying to sound harsh, just making a point. sorry to the poor little camper, but its a big kids sport, there are no rules only consequences. and hawaii is a very small community, i grew up out there... it will spread quickly and i wouldnt be surprised to see that building already being monitored. believe me, i dont want to sound like a jerk, i just think its everyone in the communities responsibility to help teach everyone involved as we all learn along the way and i know personally that i work way to hard at trying to develop this sports public image to have it ruined by ego!

Point is, the number of jumpers is growing exponentially and when jumps happen in densely populated areas, bystanders see. Yeah, he probably hastened the tightening of the security at that building, but it has been in play for a LONG time. I had to walk down from that exit about five years ago because of wind, and I know people had been off it before then. Illegal objects have a finite period of time and number of jumps that can be taken from them without ramifications. People have to accept that and act accordingly. If you really want to jump something, do it NOW. Don't complain about other people drinking all the beer if you never got up and went to the cooler.

The first rule of BASE Club is:
We don't talk about BASE Club!

That said, how many of us would love to go back in time to when we were 19 and do some things differently?

While i love watching people's videos, maybe we should post them in a less conspicuous location, like on here vs. youtube? Or skydiving movies... anywhere a little more, ah, secure would be wise.
