New Packing Video!
Hey! We just finished a new BASE packing video! It's easy to learn, fast, clean and reliable! Available at exitpointproductions.com or just e-mail us at alex@exitpointproductions.com to get your copy!

Just to make things nice and clear the method I use is actually a flat/pro pack. It starts out on it's side like a flat pack and not over your shoulder although it is still a Proper Ram air Orientation pack job.

Is it true that flat packs tend to open up in 90 degree off headings? Which video is out there that has the best reviews on P.R.0. packing?

Re: [rusty0311] New Packing Video!
That is not true at all.

If that is occurring, then the packer is doing something wrong. The side pack has advantages over the propack for some types of jumps, depending on the canopy. The side pack has a couple caveats that can make it very successful. Rich Stein, BASE 74, and Bill Legg, BASE 175, used it very, very succesfully before the advent of the pro pack. They semiretired before that period. I never saw Bill have an off heading opening, either slider up or down using his side pack.

So you're pro-packing on the ground right? Same result as my pack job if I recall.

Nah, that's not true at all. With a real stack pack or whatever you want to call it, the canopy is still oriented nose forward, tail to the back. Laying it out on it's side is just prep work.

Always felt watching people flat pack the lines all lined up better than me pro packing. Would be interested in watching the video not sure I would change my packing unless he could get me down to 15 minutes from 30 haha

Jesse packs in 12-15 if he's having a slow day...
Shortcut
Re: [cutter29] New Packing Video!
I'm sure he is able to pack cleanly and produce the desired result in 12 to 15 min...but what's the point. I have found that when it comes to rigging, at any level, speed only lends itself to mistakes. Mistakes which could be avoided if due diligence was the priority. I'm not questioning his ability only the reason. Bye the bye the extra 15,20 mins it takes for me to do a flat pro pack with clamps and weights, a'la moe, has never inhibited me from making a jump.I should caveat that with I don't go to idaho, haven't been to bridgeday since the late 90's and have never jumped outside of the contiguous 48.

Re: [460] New Packing Video!
Could you please elaborate on your side pack? Is this the 'student' flat pack, where the canopy folds are not teased out to either side, but just stacked ontop of one another?

Just checkin this method isnt the same pro-stack method?
Shortcut
Re: [udder] New Packing Video!
It starts off on its side but thats just prep. When its finished its as if it had been pro packed then neatened up. I first saw this method of packing by Base #25 in the early 80's. He told me the advantage of starting off on the side and giving a good pull on the packing tabs was that you would instantly be able to tell if there was any seperation of top and bottom surface, something jumpers used to suffer from in the early days when experementing with diferent strengths of break tie. A Pro Pack over the shoulder wont show this .

We used to call this method of packing, 'The Refined Nose Down Trash Pack'

Very nice video Id recommend to anyone. My pack jobs have been looking worse and worse recently so I decided to pick it up and I'm very glad that I did. Learned a few little tricks that has made my packing quite a bit neater, but holy shit thats a neat looking packjob in the video.

Please tell me the BJ in the video is all F-111? My BJ with ZP does NOT go in as neat as that no matter what i do.

Re: [Couloirman] New Packing Video!
Glad you like the DVD. The canopy is a black Jack 260 with a ZP nose.

Re: [SirHoytalot] New Packing Video!
I just got my copy in the mail today. I sat down and watched it as soon as I got home. I watched it and another packing dvd one right after the other. I'll have to say that Jesse's video was above and beyond better than the other ones that I have seen.

The video editing was top notch. He explained everything clearly and consisely the first time, he didn't sit and toil over topics and spend undue time on them which is something I found annoying in the other video that I watched. I mean we all know where the pause and rewind button is on our remote if we want to see something again. The packjob looked super neat and efficient. No BS. I will be using this packjob from now on.

The video is definitely worth the money I spent on it. And one last thing... After i ordered the video the turn around time on it was awesome.

Thanks Jesse! I really enjoyed the video and will continue to use it as a reference!

Re: [rusty0311] New Packing Video!
is it a traditional flat pro pack?
Shortcut
Re: [460] New Packing Video!
It is a flat pack. And from what I understand the canopy used in the video is a Blackjack260CUS. The packjob I saw there looks sharper and neater and quicker than any over the shoulder type of pack I have seen in person or on video. Considering that I'm new to B.A.S.E. Jumping this video was very easy for me to understand. Packing is easy for me now after watching the vid a couple times and doing some practice packjobs.

Re: [460] New Packing Video!
What's a flat stack? I've never heard of it.
Shortcut
Re: [debaucherordrgz] New Packing Video!
It's being made too complicated... it's simple really.

A pro-pack is a pro-pack is a pro-pack. You can start it over the shoulder or flake the canopy out on it's side then dress the fabric between line groups individually as you stack it up. It's often labeled as a pro-stack.

A flat pack as commonly labeled, is the canopy layed out on it's side and then simply stacked up. B over A, C over B, D over C, and then dressing the tail up on top. Rather than having the fabric distributed to both sides, it's all on one side. That is the pack job the people recognize as a flat pack. Flat stack is the same thing but no one calls it that.

Roll pack. ... never mind.

Trash pack. Generally a messy propack. Just pick it up like your about to propack the canopy move the brake lines to the center and pull the tail around

Hope that helps
Shortcut
Re: [debaucherordrgz] New Packing Video!
stack pack - a S fold is made between each set of lines. Lines are in the center. the bottom skin is not touched. The stabilizers are pulled out. The tail is packed like normal except the excess slack fabric is not rolled on the side toward the nose but is "packed into itself." My friend made 200 slider down jumps prior to the invention of the tailgate and he never had a line over with this tail packing method.

Yes, I was taugh this method from day one, used it for over 400 jumps, up and down, takes a bit more room but works.

Just about ALL methods work. In the end, same results.

Real men do not use hammers either because tools are for

Re: [crazyintherain] New Packing Video!
I pack very similar to the video, I started with 9 clamps (4 medium 5 small) and am down to just two small clamps now (one for risers and another for the A lines/nose) but can do it with none. Its just about making sure you can control the parachute during packing. I actually think mine are cleaner looking now with just two. But Ive also packed this way more than 300 times.
Shortcut
Re: [crazyintherain] New Packing Video!
Yes we do ship outside the US

Clamps are an easy way to keep your pack job clean, consistent, fast and reliable especially when your learning.

Buy a copy and let me know what you think. I have a feeling you will not mind the clamps.

Re: [deadmanwalking] New Packing Video!
I received both DVDs (BASE flat packing and BASE jumper) this week and the only thing I can say is: AWESOME!!!!
Ordering from Brazil was slightly complicated since I was not willing to use Paypal (I had some previous issues with them) thus could not use my cc. Fortunately Alex was very helpful and we managed a way to close the deal.
The flat PRO packing looks incredibly neat and organized. I’ve been PRO packing (over the shoulder) like I was taught in my BASE course but should be probably switching to this method from now on. I really liked some of the tips and changes in the packing sequence. At first I thought it would take a lot of space to pack but you don’t need to have the whole canopy fully spread on its side.
BASE jumper is also a pleasure to watch. Really cool footage and editing. I can’t wait to see my friends faces when I play it on the bus DVD on the way back from work!Laugh
Overall really nice and well edited videos! I totally recommend both!
Congrats to Jesse and Alex!

Finally got a chance to see this DVD and I
was very impressed. The techniques were
smooth, easy to follow, and produced a
really clean pack job.

I have been packing regularly for a decade
and still learned a few things / took notes.

My only complaint: lack of chapter markers,
which make re-watching a technique easier.

These lines made me smile:

“Make sure you get all four”
“Get ready to stow your lines”
“Aim the pack job” ~Jesse Hall
