Novel Pin Usage
The comments in the other thread made me curious
about unique ways multiple pins have been used...
I especially would like to hear more about 3 pins
being used to keep a container closed... photos
would be awesome if anyone wants to share.

WS BASE jumpers would probably like to
hear more about wing collapse by pin.

I'm not very experienced by any means but I feel like that's just one more complication in the system. But then again I'm from that school of thought...KISS.

As for the idea itself, I think it's pretty novel, and smart if built/implemented well enough.

Nick is building one that is low profile and longer than a conventional pack tray. A base container made for wingsuiting mostly. I think he calls it the delta 9.

Re: [SPAWNmaster] Novel Pin Usage
I have integrated risers and either have the slider up or off...
so you can see I too am a KISS kind of guy, however, going
from velcro to 2 pins made some things possible, like WS.

Going from 1 pin to 2 pin help to reduce pin tension, my
thought was a 3rd pin would help do 2 things: spread closing
tension further and allow the middle to be closed first so the
top & bottom pins could be closed in a neater and cleaner
way as to disturb the pack job less.

Again just thinking, and as mentioned by more experienced
guys in the other thread it has already been done successfully.

I always thought that keeping the slider on (up or down) was more of an KISS kinda thing. Minimizing the amount of rigging needed and hence minimizing the chance of a rigging error.

totally agree that. also if you have riser blow (in three rings) slider helps a little bit.

I see where you are coming for sure
and it has nothing to do with pins Wink

Nonetheless, I personally see a system's
function being simple as more important
than the process I have to take needing
to be simple... again personal choice but
I want to avoid malfunction of a quick,
dynamic, process that has an impact on
my health versus rigging work which I do
slowly in a controlled environment at my
leisure.

Again, the debates on sliders and risers
has been discussed to death AND I have
jumped both of the other configurations.

For example, on my Malaysian trip I had
2 rigs packed slider up for the KL tower.
I ended up going to do a low E so I just
moved the slider down, did the jump &
then slid it back up for the 24 hour thing.
However, the next event was Sibu, which
is a no slider jump so I took them off.

Really comes down to which kind of
jumps I will be doing for a while. If I
was constantly doing slider-up & down
jumps then yeah I'd just leave it on.

Lastly, with my Troll, it only has 4 lines
so a full line continuity check takes all
of about 6 seconds per line group.

Re: [GreenMachine] Novel Pin Usage
Here's a project of mine thats been ongoing for a few years. It utilizes a 3pin container due to length (~34"). You'll notice the bottom pin is actually going into a loop from a floorplate, we had to do this also from the length; otherwise it wouldn't have had anything to keep the desired form (flat & wide instead of a 'tubesock full of canopy'). Tree, the rigger who actually built the container for me, said that three pin closures are actually a fully tested method that just aren't really in use anymore.
