What do YOU do?
<rather than posting in the "stolen BD photo" thread, I started this one.>

It's pretty safe to say that most of us who BASE jump love it. I've done it for a short while, and I'm so psyched and totally impressed with some of the things I've seen people doing in the sport, and some of the directions it's going. And other directions...not so much.

So this thread is here for you to tell the BASE community what YOU do/have done FOR THE BASE COMMUNITY. The purpose isn't so much ego stroking as it is to let people know what is/has been done and to possibly show by example, some of the things people can do to make the sport of BASE jumping better.

Maybe you have opened an exit point(s). Maybe you invented an aerial. Maybe you are an active host. Maybe you're an active mentor. Maybe you run a BASE event. Whatever. Tell us about it.

Maybe it will inspire someone.

Re: [pope] What do YOU do?
Ok, I'll Start. The first thing i learned when I started jumping was how to pick locks. It just seamed like the logical thing to do since I lived in Florida and the only thing in my area to jump was towers. We all know they like to keep the elevators on those things locked and I wasn't about to climb one back then. In fact I'm looking forward to riding a few very soon! Now, It seems it's required training for new jumpers.

I thin the one thing I do is, have patience with whuffos. . . I try to be polite and answer their stupid little questions that we've all heard a million times. And show the general public that we're just another recreational group out enjoying our day. . .Angelic

What do YOU do?
I have...

- taught a few guys how to pack
- opened 7 or 8 objects so far
- helped several get their 1st A
- taught one guy to BASE jump
- hosted many visiting jumpers
- spread the ashes of a friend

But what I have really done for the sport is
to be a big pussy!! I took 8 attempts to do
my first solo, did 101 jumps before doing
any flips, and climbed down from a bandit
B in perfect conditions cause the other guy
knew that his canopy skills where not ready
for the tight LZ.

Sure, I post a lot, day blaze, camera whore,
and sometimes flail on exit but I also have
had some postive input on BASE too.

Peace,
~Tom

Re: [pope] What do YOU do?
haha, BASE buddy called me at 5am once... first words out of my mouth, "you get arrested?" his response was "not yet"...cops were staking out his car, and he'd been hunkered down all night waiting for them to leave. i called in late to work, dropped the kid off at daycare and went and got him.

another BASE jumper, i didn't even know, languished in a jail cell for awhile, wrote him letters til he got out to keep his spirits up. he's one of my best friends today and is always there when i need him.

does this stuff even count?

Re: [pope] What do YOU do?
I was the first or second to turn the BASE community onto the BASE Propack that I developed. Everyone was flatpacking back in the day. Adam Filipino was working on it also but I am not sure if he was introducing it at the time. But Adam let me name his first BASE rig series. "Perigee", which was mighty cool of him.
Take care,

I remember seeing Moe Viletto using the flat pro pack (his own design) back in 1991.

Re: [460] What do YOU do?
That is true, I was up and Adam too in late '89- early '90.

Re: [460] What do YOU do?
Still got Moe's packing video from the day, of course he introduces himself in front of a skeletal head in his den. ha! Still pack the same exactly to this date, except tailgate has since been invented.

I think this is a good thread. My contibution to the BASE world is staying off the LIST so far by taking it slow and never stop learning what I can.
