Re: Who thinks Bridge Day should cost less and have less sophistication
The funny thing is that simply jumping the rail w/o videos or cameras won't save you maybe a few bucks per jumper (boom crane costs). Read
this. If you want to save costs, do the following:
1) Convince the BDC to stop the $10/jumper required payment.
2) Convince the BDC to pay the NPS LZ permit fees and insurance ($4000-$5000 total). It is their event after all. That's a $10/jumper savings.
3) Everyone show up for onsite registration on time next year. I'll knock another $5 off if you can do this.
4) Bring your own boats and water rescue crew ($3000 savings). That's another $7 off.
5) Nix the pizza, beer, soda. ($6 off per jumper).
6) Nix the free T-shirt ($5 off per jumper).
Now you're down to the $50 mark.....
Unfortunately jumping off the rail coupled with a new water rescue team means a slower BD, so you won't make as many jumps. I made my first BD jump from the rail after waiting 5.5 hours in line back in 1993.
