BD2009 - Miss the Holiday Inn?
As everyone probably knows, there was a change of venue for the jumpers at BD2009.

What did ya think?

I thought it will be a fucking zoo, but it turned out pretty nice. I suppose a more inside venue would have been better, but I am not complaining. No matter how much I like being warm, I don't care for Johnny Law sniffing doors and ticketing people. Plus it was pretty toasty by the fire.

A more centralized location would have been even better, but I have nothing to complain about this year.

Hell I loved the new venue. Even with the weather being crappy I thought this BD was way better because of it. RE let us completely take over that campground and it was awesome. For $30 i was able to tent for 3 nights, party with multiple groups around many fires, party in the bar, and of course take full advantage of the hot tub! I can't wait until next year and hope we do it there again!

Would prefer a hotel just not the holiday. The campground and driving with a few in ya was a pain in the ass. If the holiday was the only choice screw them. Keep the campground.

i agree with Paul.

fuck the holiday inn.

i'm pretty sure there is another hotel in the works for next year... either way, i was stoked with the campground and not seeing any cops (or angry staff for that matter).Smile

+1

It was nice being able to walk out to your car to get something and not be harassed by the cops for having a beer in your hand.

I'm an ex-cop, but I hope that department/city lost some income compared to the years in the past because we weren't there. I hope it teaches them to serve people instead of harassing them.

I agree that being at RE was cool. Weather was the big problem, but it was a super bad year for weather. Atmosphere was loose, and totally friendly with no worries. If the weather had been drier and warmer, it would have been great. Good Job Jason.

I had a great time after the chocolates started to wear off enough for me to have a conversation without freaking out Laugh

Thanks to Tom Bell for hooking me up with a place to crash.

Re: [base75] Better off at the Holiday Inn
Herendza, do you realize this is the first time any organized BASE jumper boycott may have worked. Screw the Holiday Inn. Without BASE it never would have been built. You remember the old days after Carl died, Bridge Day got hard to control. I always told Jean tryilng to organzie BASE jumpers is like Herding Cats. Well, thanks to Jason and company, it still thrives and this year, thanks to the idiot managers at the Holiday Inn, that was in fact built because of jumping at Bridge Day, we had fun. Glad they forgot who "brung them" since Rivers Expeditions is a much more jumper friendly forum. The atmospher this year was similar to 82 and 83. Lot of jumper comradery and not many whuffos.
See you there next year, WHUFFO
Rick
You need to come out next year and we won't be spinning donuts.

i agree with rick on this one. the campground was killer, we just got pissed on weatherwise, and even then it wasnt that bad.

i vote lets give river expeditions pne more try.

Re: [avenfoto] Better off at the Holiday Inn
Aside from weather, I think the Campground was much better than holiday inn..
1. They could accomodate EVERYONE.
2. Didn't walk into a cloud of smoke when you went to the bar. And bar was far cleaner.
3. Campfires
4. Bathroom was right outside the tent
5. Didn't really need a cooler
6. No problems with staff or police at all!!!

Re: [wwarped] BD2009 - Miss the Holiday Inn?
I physically flipped-off the Holiday Inn as I drove past it, they should be more accommodating...they claim, according to their web site:

No matter where you're traveling, you'll find a familiar place to stay at Holiday Inn® hotels. It’s all the services and amenities you want and the value you expect. Holiday Inn is the perfect choice for both your business and leisure travel needs. With nearly 1,500 Holiday Inn hotels around the world, Holiday Inn remains the most popular hotel brand. At today’s Holiday Inn, you will be sure to find a convenient location offering many features* to make your stay more enjoyable

But how are we received during bridge day?

Re: [chipm50] BD2009 - Miss the Holiday Inn?
Maybe the HI figured that every hotel for 50 miles was booked up at max rate and they were the only ones putting up with 400+ drunks.

Some managers just do not want certain groups business. Instead of telling the group no they just raise the price.

This is not meant as a slam on Jason. His staff is very professional and courteous. However, Jason cannot control the behavior of 400+ basejumpers. Jason was the only point of contact HI management had with the base community. HI knew that if Jason left that the rest of the crew would follow.

This is the same type of behavior that got us kicked off of EL Cap.
