Re: [themotherfuckingcaptain] Heatwave 190/ First Canopy/ Huck it?
190 isn't too small. The planform is what people are concerned about. You'll be 175 ish out the door, probably 180 so it's actually not bad. Flying and landing should be fairly straight forward, if the area is open.
If you downsize a bit slower than going straight to that heatwave, it shouldn't be bad. It's a big canopy but take few steps in between. GET REAL COACHING....It turns fast... really fast. A couple high hop n pops will certainly help. You need to land many times to figure out how to land though ;)
Landing on the dropzone is easy, landing in someones back yard next to the swingset ... avoiding powerlines, etc will get you if you don't know how to sink it in or do flat turns on any canopy. The heatwave may just do it quicker. Being a 190, who knows. I can find an incident report from a guy jumping 190 stiletto with low jump numbers, he actually had 100 I think. He weighed slightly more than you.
Parachutes.... FLying an accuracy rig is boring. Sorry but it is. You can learn all kinds of cool things on it if you're very creative. Back spins, flying backwards, sinking it in, but practicing skills under a different canopy then picking up something like a 170 would be a good bet.
You don't need a new rig either You can find something very suitable used. If you do get new, unless you get a really good deal get an Infinity. They're so much easier to rig as a packer of the main, and the reserve.
Go enjoy skydiving for what it is. Want to see a good video of great skydiving and a bit of base mixed in? I just saw this link yesterday. Tell me skydiving isn't fun after watching this. I don't know if you need a facebook account to see it, I think it's open ... here it is.
