Profly vs V3...
Hi all,

There is one quite old post about this and it is not that informative, so:

Im getting a wingsuit for base next season and there are two main contenders. The S-fly Profly (no-grip) & the Vampire 3. Both seem to be awsome suits.

But... im worried that if get the Profly, ill end up wishing id got a V3. And the other way too.

I like the Profly because I believe it has great glide & all round performance. I like the fact that you dont need a base pouch either, and your hands are free.

The amount of fabric on the V3 is intimidating, espically the arm wings... but as I understand in Switzerland the V3 is top while in Norway the Profly is tops for proximity.

I would like some advice for you guys who fly these suits. Maybe some info on how these suits compaire, as I know there some exit point that are only possable on a V3 (aparently).

Thanks guys.

Cheers.

Re: [freefall80] Profly vs V3...
Please excuse my candor and forthrightness here as I'm trying to help you make the best choice for YOU and not for someone else:

It's completely a personal preference matter; you're asking us to impose our preferences on you by saying 'because I prioritize X above Y I choose this suit, then it's now the better choice for you too'. Or you want to see what the crowd is preferring and follow them along instead of using your own selection criteria. It sounds to me that having hands free, no leg pouch, and less fabric is a higher priority to you, so you would be better off with Pro-Fly. For me, performance is the only priority to which everything else takes a backseat, so I only use Vampires.

BASE jumping has a lot of grey areas. As the previous poster stated, what is YOUR criteria?
what is YOUR experience?
what is wrong with YOUR current suit?
where do YOU plan on jumping?

no matter what anyone says, eventually YOU must make the choice, and become a test jumper.

the best way is to build on your experience. choose a suit, then jump it conservatively until you know it. then try different flight modes. if you find you want to try something, but can't in your suit, get a new one.

check the BFL. too many wingsuiters have already died. don't rush it.

Sounds like you already know the answer.

When you go to jump an exit point in lauterbrunnen with your profly and see some guy go 200m further with their V3, then you'll wish you had a V3 because going further is so much cooler.

When you jump your V3 and wobble around because of your lack of experience and then grab wing and almost sizzle in, then you'll wish you had a Profly.

The two suits are very different and should not really be compared for an either-or choice. It sounds like you need more of an entry level suit, and the profly would qualify for that. jump it 50-100 times and then sell it and get a V3 if you want the distance.

or order your V3 now, and while you wait for 16 months to get it, jump the profly.

V3, because you know you want to be like all the cool kids.

Re: [Sangi] Profly vs V3...
Get good using a entry level suit. Whether you buy or borrow get good at flying it well in the base enviorment. When you rock at using it step up to an intermediate suit. I.e. Profly or phantom get really good at flying it. You'll know when guys start commenting on how well you are flying it and have to ask you; What are you flying? Then step it up to the top suits... I have both an intermediate suit and a top suit and plan on flying my intermediate suit in the base enviorment for a while yet. I'm flying it well but want to get everything out this suit before I step it up. No rush....
P.s. Don't make it about the money. Buy what you need then sell it when you've mastered it. Then move up.

This quote would be more at home on the wingsuit forum over on Dz.com Wink

Accurate lead time info can be found here: http://www.phoenix-fly.com/pricelist.htm

and yes it does take a while to get your custom made V3, 17 weeks due to high demand.

Nice flying from the Eiger btw. Smile
