Depends on what the talus looks like and how positive the face is. I recall on one occasion that I studied some topo on an E and everything looked ok until we hiked the couple hours to it and found out that not only was it pretty positive but the talus was huge and all bouldery.

That being said, a new E is always worth it. I say go there and check it out. You never know what hidden gems there are out there. Very worst you get some exercise. Tongue

Well, if you are gonna have a burning man party you might as well bring A and Sid with ya to. Might make things interesting.

Tell me where the hike is and I'll go take a walk up there and check it out.

From the contour lines of the topo that one ain't gonna cut it. IMO the lines have to be solid black stacked on top of each other to be worth checking out.

Not that this is applicable in this particular case, but Google Maps obviously has some kind of smoothing applied to topos which makes sheer walls appear positive (apparently, Google engineers were not smart enough to figure out how to shade an infinite gradient... so they resorted to making them not so infinite). You'll never see topo lines converging on top of each other on Google Maps.

Important consideration Yuri. Makes checking other topo sources even more important. I guess nothing beats the old "rock drop".
