Power Line Strike
This was posted on my company's website news: Stunt Jumper Hits Power Line, Causes Outage
(Oct 01, 2009)
One of three parachutists leaping from a TV tower in Suffolk, Va., struck a power line and knocked out electrical service to about 500 Dominion Virginia Power customers Wednesday morning.
The trio jumped from the 1,000-foot tower of WVEC-TV at about 6:35 a.m., according to reports. One of the jumpers drifted into a power line, which created a fault on the line. Most customers' power was restored by 10:30 a.m.
A white SUV was seen leaving the scene. It is not known if the jumper who hit the line was injured.
"Not only did they endanger their own lives, but they also knocked out power to our customers," said company spokesman Chuck Penn. "There is a cost associated with replacing those lines."
