The wife & I had a long discussion before
I ever took an FJC or bought my first rig
and her sentiment was basically:

You can get arrested, I will bail you out.
You can break a leg, I will nurse you back.
You are NOT allowed to get paralyzed or die.

It's pretty much a no-brainer bru.

A guy I knew got ran over while getting out of his car. Paralysed and brain damage. Within a few months his wife couldn't take it any more, his house got sold and his elderly parents were left to take care of him...

Oh yeah man, I totally agree with you!

Ask anyone on
The List or Packing_Jarrett
if they would prefer to waste some time,
money, & deal with the hassle of the US
legal system... they would all say YES!!!

However, people considering BASE often
post and focus on the legal element, so I
thought having some experienced guys
remind them that when we are @ an exit
point worrying about calling an attorney
is not what is on our mind.

Funny side note - I imagine the guys in
jail would consider us either cool or crazy
and leave us alone... is there any truth
to this assumption you jail birds? Tongue

I think they would be more likely to give you trouble if they hear that your this badass crazy BASE Jumper because they would want to show whos in charge. But it could work to your advantage if you just act bat crazy. (note i have not been to jail so i really have no idea)

Re: [sbarker] Obvious but needs to be Reiterated
not only will the inmates think it's cool but even the cops will think it's cool. i've signed autographs for women cops when i was in jail.

Re: [460] Obvious but needs to be Reiterated
i beat the shit out of some drunk asshole in the tank after getting arrested for dui... a year later i was in the clink doing weekends for eating a poppy seed bagel and testing positive on a drug test, and the guards remebered me as the dude who finally made that loud drunk guy shut up, and told the other inmates, and i enjoyed psudo-celebrity for a sat-sun. i also learned to play basketball with a roll of toilet paper, and how to sneak things in to jail. they don't pay much attnetion to the back of your balls when you're just going in for the weekend.

A criminal record is just a record. Paper and digital data. Id much rather have that going against me than have to get around in a wheelchair.

One of my best friends in the world and my
college roommate is a C4-C5 quadriplegic
who I worked for as a care-giver for 3 years.

He is the epitome of a party-guy who teaches
everyone bright enough to pay attention to the
grace of being a human... and I have already
been to jail once so based on my experiences
I agree, a legal battle beats a daily battle Unsure

Total LOVE & RESPECT to all injured jumpers!

In reply to:

You are NOT allowed to get paralyzed or die.

Is that a realistic viewpoint...?
You have 'some' control on whether you have an incident......but thinking you have full 'control' is a mistake.
You have some control on what you do when (not if) an incident happens...but again, thinking you have full control is a mistake.
You have very little control on the outcome of an incident involving a strike or hard impact.

I think its important for close family ( as well as ourselves ) to fully realise that by jumping...not only can you die , but you can be subjected to a full range of injuries from a sprained ankle through to living the rest of your life in a wheelchair....
Nobody wants to think too hard about these things happening, and we don't need to dwell on it....but the spectre of doing everything right, and everything still going badly wrong exists on each and every jump we do.....and I think we (as in us and our immediate family) all need to be crystal clear on that.

BTW The times I have been arrested or detained after jumping....I always have the biggest smile on my face....because I may be 'caught' , but I'm still in one piece.. ;)

Completely agree Darren!!

I'd much rather hear you got pinched than hurt Smile

I did not get hurt BASE jumping but I would do ANYTHING for a federal record if it meant the pain goes away.

One of those votes for getting arrested was me. I thought it was 'which would you rather do?" question.

I'm a dork.

i'd rather get busted than hurt any day.

I certainly agree with you that being busted is better than being injured. Jail is no fun regardless, but definitely better than the hospital.

+1 Dork. I tagged the wrong button. I'd rather get busted than sprain my ankle.

This would be a not brianer if it weren't for those damn handicap parking passes... Right now, I'm thinking injury would be worse, but I know the next time I'm running the gantlet in the Walmart parking lot, I'm gonna wish I marked down arrest!

Re: [GreenMachine] Which is worse in your opinion?
Mr. Green,

My wife feels the same as yours.

I broke my back the first time in 98 ... I would do almost anything to get the pain to go away ... But arrested or broken is just a hassle, permanent damage is a bitch.

Yep, I tagged the wrong button also. Arrest me any day, just keep me the fuck out of hospitals.

what really pisses me off is when i have been injured and a bunch of clowns who are not handicapped park in handicapped spots. i felt like slashing their tires.

Disabled Parking
I hate watching fat people park in a disabled parking spot,
waddled into a store, and then ride around in a motorized
shopping cart to buy lots and lots of junk & processed food.

Re: [kcollier] Obvious but needs to be Reiterated
Just curious, but what would be some of the objects of choice that someone would affix to the back of their balls? I was initially thinking of something to make a shiv out of. But that didn't seem like an item that I'd want riding around down there.

And what is the common method for attachment of the object?

But I think most importantly... should this be part of one's standard gear, or something that you just wear at all times on a daily basis? (following the wisdom of the Boy Scout motto)

Re: [SpacemanSpiff] Obvious but needs to be Reiterated
When I used to wear tighty whities, I just stuck the contraband in there. Due to widespead homophobia in the US a male is not likely to get strip searched at the scene. In fact one will probably not have to remove any clothing articles until they are processed into an actual jail unit. That usually only occurs if you don't make bail.

Re: [SpacemanSpiff] Obvious but needs to be Reiterated
objects were not "affixed" to the balls, per-se, but placed in the area behind the balls, near the taint / grundel, and would be held in place by either underwear or squeezing your legs / asscheeks together. this way, if in the odd case they made you strip down naked (which they don't do for weekenders) the items would not be visible. every time i went in, i was allowed to keep my own underear, and was not strip searched. just handed a pile of stripes and told to change

objects which may or may not have been smuggled in include pills, chewing tobacco, weed, matches, basically anything that would help pass the time in the can.

as far as being prepared, i wouldn't want to keep ingestible items stored near my ass for any extended period of time, so i'd say the preparation and stashing of items near or behind the balls should be situation-specific, and evaluated on a case by case basis. hopefully not too many boy scout leaders reading this, before you know it, behind-the-balls inspections will be daily rutine in troop meetings.... creeps.
