jarretts an amazing kid and he and his family really need our support. his injuries are severe including a torn aorta and spine severed at the waist. doctors feel he is probably paralyzed but lets hope they are very, very wrong. jarrett is only 18 so youth is on his side to make the best recovery possible. a paypal acct is being set up tonight and will be posted for all to help the family and jarrett with the long road they have ahead of them.

i have 3rd and 4th hand accounts of what happened but i do not want to post them until i feel they are accurate or confirmed as such.

So it wasn't basejump or paragliding but "modified" equipment used as a "paraglider"?

   He was launching a Xaos88 planning to do an intentional cutaway and then open a BASE Canopy. He spun into the mountainside with one riser of the Xaos still attached. It sounds like it was a premature riser release soon after launch and while only 75-200ft above the deck. The area they were flying is extremely unforgiving. Steep and Rocky. He spun in. Apparently tossed his pilot chute to try and get more nylon over his head but to no avail. He impacted the mountain side and then continued another 100ft down the steep terrain. This is all first hand information coming from his friends who were flying with him and involved in the rescue.
He is doing well after surgery and is responsive. My friend said that he seemed to move his toes a bit. so... good signs. Fingers Crossed

On Aug 25th Jarrett was hurt badly in a ground launching Accident. The plan was to ground launch his main canopy which was hooked up to a base rig, fly off of a 2,000 ft cliff over the ocean, cut away his main and then open the base rig. Unfortunetly, after Jarrett successfully ground launched, one of the cut away cables unintentionally cut away at 70-75ft off the ground. He then spiraled to the ground and landed on a huge rock. He was airlifted to a Hosp. in Hawaii, equivilant to Harborview. At which point everyone thought he might have broken his femur.

Recent NewsSurgeries:
Had a successful 8 hr surgery to repair his torn Aorta. He is breathing on his own; heart is pumping on its own. They are keeping him under a medical coma to keep his blood pressure down. If his blood pressure gets too high it will undo what the surgery just fixed. Don't have any idea when they will bring him out of the medical coma. Dr's are concerned with his colon, pancreas, and kidneys. Running tests and watchful eye on those organs. His spinal cord was severed somewhere in the waist. They won't know exactly where until they bring him out of the coma. Jarrett will be paralyzed from the waist down.
Brett did arrive in Hawaii on Wednesday afternoon. He appreciates all the emails, messages and texts, but regrets that there is not enough time in the day to get back to everyone. He was able to talk to Jarrett breifly when they brought him down off the drugs to see where his threshold was and then they boosted him right back up with meds. Jarrett did squeeze Bretts hand and recognized him. This news was given to me from Brett on Aug 26th 7:20 p.m.
Jarrett has no health insurance. Anyone that would like to help can do so, anything and everyhting is appreciated! Will keep you posted on everything!
D'Arcy is trying to set up a fund at Bank Of America today and Dana has started a paypal account for Jarrett/Brett.

I hate hearing this. He's a real good kid.

yea, i edited my post. I have gotten conflicting reports from people at the scene about the incident and it was first reported that he was launching a paraglider. I apologize for the misinformation. I think that it is a real tough time for everyone out in HI right now. This is the second major incident in almost as many weeks out there. Heal fast Jarrett!

I am sorry to hear this, my thoughts are with you Jarrett. No insurance? How unfortunate. And completely avoidable. People please get health care insurance for yourself. Accidents happen! We operate over the edge in dangerous territory on a regular basis. My recent appendectomy was $38,532.88. 22 hours in the hospital. And I was just living, nothing dangerous.
