Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
I am considering doing my first flippy-do.

PS: I am sitting here while a guy
replaces the windows in my house.

PPS: Let's keep this thread positive
so it does not end up being locked Wink

Sounds like you mean "personally new" not "earthshaking" new.

Last year my brother and I did our first two way. My wife is talking about jumping again this year so we may make it a three way with her under a round.

Yes - a three-way with my wife and my brother.Shocked

What is a flippy-do and does it involve kicking? WinkAngelic

In Green Machine's case, a flippty-do involves flailing through the subterminal air like a wounded duck. So yes, kicking is implied.

I wanted to do a 200m rope jump last year, but the gorram 'sport rappellers' seem to have a cooler thing to use the wide open air with.

Re: [Calvin19] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
You're always welcome to give the rope jump a try as far as I'm concerned. Of course, the gun-toting folks on the Bridge Day Commission would have to approve it. Personally, I'd love to see it.....

I'm debating on designing and constructing one of two new launch platforms next year......one of them being the catapult as seen on the TV show "Wipeout". The other has been mulled over for years (a walk the plank concept where spectators pull a lever to drop the jumper from the tip). The catapult sounds better.

what about a slingshot Cool

Re: [base428] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
I'd like to see the return of some form of accuracy contest.
How about making the target a little bigger and giving token prizes on the spot, e.g. t-shirts, hats, whatever. Maybe something like a go-to-the-front-of-the-line-card for a dead center?
Shortcut
Re: [skydave114] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
Not a bad idea about the "front of the line pass" for those who hit the accuracy pad. I'll consider it for this year.

As for the slingshot, it sounds like too much equipment to me.

Hey Tom how about a Mr. Bill?

Or maybe you could toss me over the edge like you're a bouncer in a barTongue

Re: [chipm50] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
I am game for either, but tossing you over would require
another guy, sure someone in your crew wants to help
throw you off for your marginal food selections.

Re: [GreenMachine] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
How about some Old-New Ways . . .

This would be a cool way to raise money for something worthy and yet to be determined.

For instance:

Two way with Yuri, what's the chances he'd punch threw another canopy. Cost: 100 bucks.

Two way with Gerald, BASE 75, you won't really understand it, but still surely pass on the story to your grand kids. Cost: 150 bucks.

Two way with The Pick. This one has to be paid in advance. "Was that today?" is no excuse if it doesn't happen. Cost: 200 bucks.

Two way with JBird, guaranteed the best stuff, so if you don't remember it, you still have to pay. Cost: 250 bucks.

Two way with Mark Hewitt, BASE 46. Inventor of the line mod. No matter how this goes he'll still kick your ass all over the landing area for fucking up. Cost: $300 bucks.

Two way with Moe Viletto, BASE 257, by the time he teaches you how to pack to his satisfaction Bridge Day will be over, so bring your running shoes. Cost: $350.

Two way with Marta, BASE 206. Co-Owner of Apex BASE and after landing you might as well turn gay as you just had the best woman imaginable. Cost: $400.

Two way with Robin Heid, BASE 44. If after this jump you hit him over the head with a beer bottle, we'll give you the money. Cost: $450.

Two Way with NickDG. Here you get not only my promise I won't hit you in freefall or under canopy, you'll also get the complete history of BASE and I won't steal your girlfriend unless she's really really hot. Cost: priceless . . .

Two Way with NickDG.

How bout a swoop contest? Anchor some wind blades in the water to make a lane, winner gets a free case of PBR.
Shortcut
Re: [base428] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
The catapult sounds fun. I'd get in line for that.

How about a low-pull contest? (Kidding!)

Seriously though... Maybe a costume contest? Sometime to compete with the pig-bunnies, could be a crowd pleaser.

Re: [base428] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
I would so volunteer for that.

In order to support the useless beginnings of threads that celebrate mediocrity and waste bandwidth...... I'm going to do my first "above rapid water landing"
Shortcut
Re: [fuzrb14] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
from what I remember, the rapids are deep and not terribly heavy. shitty old canopy slider down (it will be lost), cutaway 5 meters above the water, above the rapids section (be careful, the rumor is you can't judge altitude, but I'm not buying it) canopy will be clear, your wearing helmet and life vest, bright colors, and swim it. don't be a pussy.

Re: [fuzrb14] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
celebrate mediocrity

Sure, plenty of bad asses did flips from bridges
before I ever did my first tandem 8 years ago.

However, doing my 1st flip on a BASE jump is
still going to be cool for me and to my friends.

Somehow I still manage to be genuinely happy
for people doing their 1st solo skydive or freefly
dock or bridge jump or antenna jump...

Re: [Twoply] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
I think slides are a bad idea since your PC will be scraping all the way down. Slide down on your stomach and your cutaway handle might take a hit. Slingshots are bulky and inaccurate. Hell, our simple diving board took a fair amount of thought and testing before going online in 2003.

Keep the ideas coming though....

Re: [base428] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
How about a trampoline? Cheap, not much construction, just gotta figure out how to arrange it to where you could jump off the bridge and not hit the metal around the edge of the trampoline. Or maybe a slide like at the playground, but you'd have to be holding onto your pc so it doesn't come out? Or a skate ramp w/ jump with a skateboard tied to a string(only long enough to launch you off the side of the bridge) then next person to jump the ramp can pull it back up. Just some ideas off the top of my head.
Shortcut
Re: [skirider83] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
or maybe a swingset right at the edge of the bridge, and you could just jump launch off the swing once you get as high as you can(the other kind of high) like how everyone did as a kid at the playground.... i personally think it's kinda dumb, but we can make dumb things fun...

What I've always wanted was to be thrown off. I'm talking crowd surfing, over the head, heave ho'ed off.

I'm kinda muscular though and that makes me heavy. I dont see it happening even though my thighs look like boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Perfect.

Simple rope swing?
Shortcut
Re: [jawbreaker] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
What happens when a jumper lets go 1/2 second after the rope begins to swing back toward the bridge? Not good.

As for the trampoline, we actually bought one in 2004 and proposed it be used. But the NPS, being masters in physics and parachuting, deemed it "dangerous". The other gun-toting members on the Bridge Day Commission didn't disagree.
Shortcut
Re: [Twoply] Anything New Planned for Bridge Day?
Consider this DONE. I'll get 20-30 people near the railing (not the ramp) and we'll throw you off the bridge this year.

What if somebody accidentally pulls the PC or cutaway? Imagine the bridle wrapping around somebody's arm and pulling the parachuteless person off the bridge... or somebody holding the cutaway handle and wondering, "what's this?"

Whoever said the 20-30 people had to be spectators. I think there will probably be atleast that many BASE jumpers there in line who could throw him and know not to grab his PC or cut away handle.
