the whole thing will be available on dvd at later time. so far so good - here's the first short cut-out-clip from a wingsuit jump in austria:

Looks pretty cool, but just one piece of constructive criticism... Must you really use the word 'xtreme'? *sigh*

Re: [Ghetto] new film project started
ouch Pirate that hurts, i know - many people are sick of this word, especially in the active scene, but we deeply thought about it before finally using it. the thing behind it is, that the movie should also explain the shown sports to people who don't know anything about it at all. our aviators explain what and why they are doing it, describe maneuvres, equipment, etc. our goal is to bring the shown sports closer to the people in an action packed documentary. i hope you'll forgive us the use of the bad "x-word" Wink

These clips are good, but it is the same blazey blazey.. Like groundhogs day or something.
Its time to comeup with something new, and improved. More dynamic and visual. Change camera angles, play around, you know, be creative! :)

No offense to the involved, but it would be nice if jumpers took some lsd or something to get inspiration and to look outside the long line proximity skimming seen it a thousand times before box.

Anyway, have a nice day!

Seems like a cool/fun project. Best of luck! I'll have to watch it first to decide if the use of the "x-word" is forgiven, though Angelic

Couldnt agree more.
Taking nothing away from the flying skills of the jumpers.....its just not 'fresh footage '
Does that matter if its something for you and your mates ?
Not at all...
Does that matter if you are trying to make a commercial 'production'
absolutely !

hint... ;)

Re: [Zoter] new film project started
ok guys, comments like "just not fresh footage" are a bit misplaced, as you just have seen a one-minute clip.
so please give us the time to finish the movie, then watch it and give us your final feedback.

thanks Smile

well, I visited the site and found little, aside from lots of style.

too many sites already lack substance. after you grab someone's attention, what do you have to say? what information do you want them to have?

without substance, I fail to understand what the site promotes or why anyone should go there.

(but that's only my opinion. I'm sure others disagree.)

good luck on the project.

Hopefully in the near future I will be able to atleast try to make a GOOD documentary about BASE jumpers. I don't think fancy cameras and editing are the most important part, its the content that's lacking in most of the stuff I have seen so far. BASE is way to deep, some jumps with abit of interviews asking same questions are not enough to give people real picture of what this sport really is...
wanna make a good coumantary you gotta dig deeper...
As you said though, I will wait for final product to give a honest opinion, maybe I will be surprised ;)

Well, the site is made for people who are interested in the project. You'll find the information about the movie itself and the aviators profiles there.
Every Movie that wants to be taken seriously has it's own website. Except the vacation-footage from your last trip...
Regarding the style: Why should someone set up a simple html page, when he has the knowledge for a little stylish flash-page?

As you might have mentioned, this is NOT a BASE film only, there are other sports included as well. And in the end, it's still in the eye of the observer, what the real picture of a sport is.
Different people, different angles of visions, and finaly everybody creates his own opinion, that's life.
The best content is useless, when you can't deliver a quite perfect quality of the pics. So fancy cameras and mostly editing definitly IS one of the most important parts, that finally makes a movie good. But you'll find out that for sure for yourself, when you hopefully make your own BASE film one day ;)

i hope you guys don't get me wrong. So thanks a lot for all your constructive feedback, wishes and opinions so far!

The one minute clip was what you decided to show us , to represent your project....so thats all I'm commenting on, and I stick by what I said....ie not 'fresh'
Don't take it personally...take it as it was given...positive critique on what you have decided to show us
Good luck with the rest of the project, Ive checked out some of the previous movies and they look really nice.

I honestly wish your project well and hope it succeeds.

it's just that like way too much in the sport, your website simply promotes yourself. I saw no viewpoint to read. Nothing about exploring anything except the site itself. Nothing about what the sports share. What is the theme that connects the activities?

is there a plot line? is there a moral? is there a viewpoint? what are you trying to express? maybe it's a language thing as I don't speak German, but I missed it.

without some sort of theme, it strikes me about as rewarding as dating a gorgeous woman. ya know, the type that says nothing that you want to hear?

personally, I appreciate a little personality. I want something besides images to draw me in. but that's just me.

yep, except for the poor slob that tries to view the website over a poor internet connection. it could be a cell phone, a laptop connected via phone, or some more remote place in the world. "cutting edge" sites like yours seem to forget about those people. <sigh>

now it can be a great site to showcase your skills. maybe it will lead to contacts and more work. someone might wish to use quality footage in a commercial, movie, tv show, etc.

ps
and I don't make movies. I don't even video jumps, so I can't post videos. (I couldn't make a movie I'd want to watch...)

Re: [wwarped] new film project started
I hate all-Flash sites. I checked out the AirStripped site and had to wait nearly 20 secs for it to load, then to each page took another 5-10 secs to load... and I actually have reasonable broadband. (2.5Mbit non-shared downstream - in Australia)

Plenty can be done to make the site look and feel amazing without having to go the Flash route, and it'll actually work across a huge range of platforms, including iPhones.

For future reference, check out this article (one of many) on the pitfalls of full-Flash sites.

Having said that, the video was pretty good, nice post-production work, though I found the actual jump sequence to dark to see much on my CRT though, and the camera angle showed more of the jumper than the terrain.

Just my 2c Smile

Re: [Tyrion] new film project started
Much better to use some flash to enhance the site, but have all important text portions as HTML. If you have a flash intro, offer a way around it for those who don't want to load it. Then, use javascript wherever you can to jazz things up while reducing the necessity for Flash.

The type of people who actually disable Flash in their browsers (now around 5% or less) also tend to have big, old, dinosaur cell phones and still abstain from sex before marriage... but at least make sure they can see the information you are trying to present Wink

P.S. I didn't know this until a few months ago, but there are still many people who have to pay for the internet by the megabyte. It really must suck to be them... *cough*southafrica*cough* Angelic
