wonder why the other jumper didn't jump after him ? I would have certainly jump even though I was sure he was dead

I agree with you that is wasn't a BASE jump. No BFL addition if you are into that thing too. However, if the deceased was using BASE specific gear and the gear was at fault or not, it may interest people to a point they may learn something that may prevent another fatality. I vote this stays.

Their are many threads here that are not about a BASE fatality. It is about a BASE jumper. Agreed it was not a BASE jump, but if it is intrinsically linked to the sport, it should stay IMHO. Take care,

This is a learning zone. The incident is very relevant as there are MANY BASE jumpers who practice their craft from aircraft of various sorts. The fact that he was using BASE specific gear (according to the thread) makes it even more relevant to BASE jumpers. Hence the reason it was put in this thread. How many more BASE wingsuit fatalities do you think it should take to make this more relevant?
Sticking your head in the sand arguing some semantic is counterproductive to the BASE communities wellbeing.
I vote the thread stays and that you open your eyes to possibilities and potentials. You may actually learn something.

Whats weird is that these type of accidents usually get dismissed as 'not our sport' by both skydiving and basejumping.

I have some issues with your post and some praise.
I am not the only one who knew him. The BASE community is quite close in Europe. Everyone is basically, one person away from knowing anyone.
It is not certain that he screwed up. Lukas Knuttson pulled high and went in on a wingsuit jump. I saw another winger disappear behind the tree line witha PC in tow who pulled high. The latest fatality did not F### up necessarily. Time will tell.

unfortunately, I've witnessed a trend where people value the dead more than the living. they place their friendship with the deceased over the potential lives they might save.
heck, this forum is for more than fatalities!
I'd love more people to post stories about screwing up, yet surviving. too many jumpers want to hush up any mistakes rather than let others learn from them.
even if people can't learn from the specifics, many might realize there is a lot more risk than they thought. posting dangers might act as a counterbalance to all the bragging that feeds the newbie's enthusiasm.
that said, there has been a lack of information in this thread. I expect it would be best for all to attempt to wait patiently for actual facts to emerge.
those who know the most probably are suffering the most.

The guy was well known around this area. good person, great friend.
This accident may have many connection to BASE which possibly will be discussed later, after more info get out.
what happend is not clear yet. base rig was on him as well as the wing suit. Is this enought to be aware that something went wrong , which could also go wrong when you or your friend (if u have any)gonna be jumping?!
fact that this fatality isn't base jump is not important...
Anyway, i have clear impression that you know all about how things goes about BASE and wider...why bother..

"i just got word that he had 300 skydives, 50 with a V1 that he didnt fly to good, and had bought a phantom2.. first jump on that suit. it appears the 300 basejumps were correct.. " 300 skydives and 300 BASE jumps... not something to immediately draw a conclusion that it's his little experience that lead to fatal incident.
Maybe there was a pull problem or PC in tow problem that he tried to correct and that's why he got entangled with his parachute?
Has real incident analysis been done?
