Re: [pocbase] Want to buy a mountain?
So are you Pro/Con, over those NastyAss Rastafarians ( Maybe ) not being able to hike-up on private property whenever they want when it is Sold ?
If those Hippies can't do there public outburst of violence and destruction of property under the disguise of 'Public Protest' any more stealthier and organized than just throwing sticks and stones at the capitalist land owner targets in broad daylight, Fuckem. they better get with the picture and wise-up. Stupid fucking Hippies. Cannot the large population of Rastafarians in the community go smoke there dope on another hill top ?

Re: [RayLosli] Want to buy a mountain?
Sorry about that, made the mistake of throwing it out there and not giving an opinion.

Essentially I am against the sale of the mountain.

Thing is, it is already privately owned. Some of the poor guys who live in that village were already displaced during the apartheid era; the rasta's are mostly subsistence fisherman/poachers. These guys live hand to mouth when about a mile from there, a person has already spent R54 000 000 on his house that is not yet finished. Suddenly Estate Agents are finding value to the land and finding problems with the people who were displaced there. The whole thing is a little bigger than just the sale of a mountain. There is an apartheid legacy of sorts. The struggle turned to violence when the oppressed realized that there was no other way they could be heard. Come 2009 it's not the skin colour but the social status and nothing has really changed for these guys. I don't agree with the violence at all but with lack of education it's the only way some think they have of being heard.

I have done 115 jumps off that cliff alone. The cliff is about 25 mn from my house and I live in a fully developed urban area; incidently I am nearby the area from which some of these people were displaced in the first place. On that mountain I have seen Lynx, Puffadder, Cobra, etc... It's just a beautiful piece of land.

I think it should become reserve.

But hey, I am just a BASE jumper who wears Hanwags and smokes pot all day. Tongue

Re: [Borat] Want to buy a mountain?
Ya, I figured it was politically charged and social woven big mess of a topic with the protesters being dirt-poor & having no say in about anything that actually affects there life. Sounds a little more complicated than just who is the Title owner of the big hill where you live. Do the locals have some pent-up aggressions that are coming out ? LOLHAahahaa It's pretty easy of me to make light of there situation and there piss-poor outburst as I got life by the Balls @ this very small & temporary moment.
It always gets me that humans even in the lowest of suppressed situations in there lives will even resort to use/grab and throw Sticks & Stones (if thats all you have) and disturb the government bureaucratic pecking order of authority and structure. No voice & they have to also know they will not win but what hell, If you got little to nothing to loose and your voice is just ignored. I guess a few Rubber Bullets to your forehead is worth it. So maybe the Locals down there might have the right attitude now that I think about it more ? Maybe its better to fight standing and throwing Sticks & Stone than dieing on your knees and know one ever hears you .

Ye and sometimes difficult to feel sorry also. A 2 year old girl got raped there a couple of years back. I had gone past the place where she was raped that very day on my way to jump. I might even have gone past the rapist. Stories of alcohol, drug abuse and violence are common.

A buddy of mine went to go buy grass there once; at gun point the dealer told him to get into the boot of his car. Just than a taxi arrived causing a distraction for the man and my buddy managed to escape...

It's not all a bunch of rasta's poaching crawfish to survive.

I got my bad attitude for the rasta's because I worked with a pack of them some years back for a couple months. They were a SHADY bunch of lazy fucks to say the least.

Well, if you're a foreman on a ganja farm in the Oregon forests, you don't go and hire rasta's when it's picking season... Laugh
