Re: [flikit] ABP
Hi everyone,
ABP is sort of in a holding pattern at the moment, in large part due to the Murphy-related maxim that "life is what happens when you are making other plans."
After our successful inaugural convention last year in Moab, Hurricane Ike hit and destroyed ABP general counsel Rick Harrison's house. Then Rick's twin brother Randy crashed on a skydive and suffered severe injuries.
Then I had major surgery to fix my leg-that-didn't-heal-straight after my royal gorge crash in 2004.
Then Jason Dawson and I both had job traumas.
Then our new executive director got overwhelmed with work and other stuff and stepped down as ED.
So it's been a little hectic for ABP's all-volunteer force, and our webmaster lost track of site maintenance and so for the moment the site is offline.
But we're still in the game... you might say it's halftime (for followers of basketball and American football).
The first half ended on a good note - the elimination of the blanket prohibition against backcountry parachuting and the establishment of a good working relationship with NPS officials who created a roadmap for us to submit access requests and plans.
Now we're taking that proverbial deep breath and sorting out how we want to finish the game.
One bit of news: A major BASE manufacturer recently reaffirmed its strong support and willingness to take a more active role than previously and we are working out the details on that now too.
As always, the ABP appreciates all the support and good will it's received over the years from the fixed object parachuting community and looks forward to reaching our goal of NPS access sometime in the next couple of years.
