That's a Sorcerer and that loop on the shoulder is the reserve handle. The reserve PC on that system is essentially a pull-out, so if you have a pin lock on the main, you can still grab that thing, pull and toss the PC with your left hand and get the second canopy out, provided you were pulling at 1000' or so.

So what was a good and accepted way to get into BASE 11 years ago?

Thought it looked like an old Sorcerer but not sure. That fucker is Way heavy to climb with. so good thing you had a Lift to go up. Rare to see them much these days. Only see the Sorcerer on the Youtube these days.
If a Pin lock. Reserve pull loop on the shoulder will get a Reserve out pretty quick and the Sorcerer also was a Direct connection from Main Canopy to pull-out the Reserve also. I have seen it drag-out and inflate a reserve canopy so fast that if you blink you almost miss it..
11 years ago I was only BASE jumping for a year but I have 'NEVER' wore Tevas on any BASE jump. Only wore Tevas @ the DZ skydiving. Why did the 1st time jumper stop @ Tevas ? He should just be wearing a pair of, 1.99 Wal-Mart Flip-Flops. Common Sense tells anyone that Tevas would be bad if you got to stick a landing anywear but your cushy LZ of choice. But hey I got a bad habit of ' Never ' wearing a protective Helmet on any Antenna jumps I have made though. So I guess we are even on that one.. ; )

Real possibilities for a PLF is always in the back of your mind when you are BASE jumping. & I am NOT Talking about those FuckYuppy sissy fag boots called " Hanwags " that you see fuckers wearing them like they were traversing the slops of Kilimanjaro to get a BASE jump. Cocksuckers are even wearing those things for there 1st FJC @ Twin bridge. I promise you. You will not catch me dead and Cratering-in with pair of those things on. But I guess it makes them fell good with the Wag's on like you when wearing the Tevas on your 1st BASE jump.

When I made my 1st Antenna jump. The guys that took me on the Antenna for my 1st time, No Way in Fucking HELL would have let me even wander up on that load wearing a pair of fucking Tavas for a BASE jump. They would have told me to Go Get Fucked.. but I guess times are a Changing for good JM's to take a 1st timer ???
I will throw some positive reinforcement out there to you though. The jumper did pretty fair for a 1st BASE jump on a Big mast Antenna. Not to bad for body position and I have seen a few Way Slower on the Risers and Toggles. Personally for me, I think that giving that much altitude for a 1st BASE jump is Not as good as just taking them to about 400-450 Ft. for a Guy-wire Mast. I think it's best to keep it with simple with less flytime thinking. To high is to much possible fuckup time for a 1st timer. Also 'you know' there not even going to use the allotted altitude of that big-stick with Slider-up anyway. It's a fucking waist of good altitude and BASE is not a AFF level-1 skydive were the mental safety net for a 1st time jumper is multiple check-in and where's the handle with a big High-Pull to top it off.
But All-in-All he did not do to bad for a 1st jump even though some FuckTard JM'ed his ass wearing a Boat Anchor Sorcerer and a wearing summertime stroll on the Beach footwear. And then let him plaster his face and Trespassed jump object Video on the world-web . So he could jackoff while patting himself on the back while watching himself do his 1st base jump.

Hey Ray, you took me to my first A. Wasn't my first jump. I was wearing boots. And somehow you convinced me to let you pack my rig. It was my first slider up jump though.

Packed it in 15 minutes and did a damn good job. I can hardly wait to get back to the US. Almost home! I got you some shit, not much, but it'll probably come in handy.
