Slider Question
So what is the best way to pack slider up. I know how Ive done it in the past, but that is only about 10 times. The rest of my jumps are low enough to not warrant slider up. So I was just wondering how it works the best with certain types of jumps, for instance, out of a plane in a skydiving rig, compared to a terminal jump, compared to a sub terminal jump.

Is it always the same by taking a bite out of the mesh and hooking up to the tailgate area(for lack of a better term) with a small band. How many wraps and such?

I wanted to load my canopy into a skydiving rig and do some wingsuit jumps and just didnt wanna mess anything up. Anyone got any Ideas to share with me.....?

Thanks

Re: [mfob] Slider Question
Ive gone skydiving with my fury freepacked no tailpocket , a small mesh slider, and 38" pc. Hurts like hell but you can pull dirty low. It was coming out too fast so i took a bit out of my slider with a band like you said just two wraps and it seemed to slow things down a bit. Still rocked the fuck open though, so i started using my d-bag again. Now it opens just like a base jump. I saw stars the first time freepacked and dont suggest it with your normal base canopy unless hop-n-poping. Not saying you will blow it up but you never know. Im waiting on my Fury to explode on opening.

Two wraps. i've done several skydives on base canopies freepacked and opening at terminal velocity. roll the nose and relax on opening. don't wear a camera.

Re: [travisjones] Slider Question
I free packed my Flik into my skydiving container using the tailpocket, both direct and indirect controls on my large hole mesh, 38" PC, pulled right out the door of the plane (yeah I know thats dumb) and I STILL got rocked by the opening. I think the dbag makes a huge difference.

Not to the "tailgate area". To either or both C-line attachment points.

How many jumps do you have with a free-packed base canopy, this sounds like foolish advice. plus, a fury, Sheesh, no wonder you have little faith.

I have a flik lite 182 in one of my skydiving rigs with a spectra line set and mesh slider that I regularly free packed last season. It did not blow up. In fact, all it did was hurt me. This season I have a d-bag and a sail slider on it, and it still opens faster than any comparable skydiving canopy or reserve.

Best methods I found, were for *comfortable* openings take a lot of wraps of the slider, and when I say a loit, I mean 5+, and you may actually get it to snivel. That was the most effective micr-reefing method besides changing the slider to slow down the openings.

Roll the hell out of the nose, tight like a burrito. Good tight primary stow. Properly sized PC, go smaller since you are skydiving it.

I'd suggest agains't a camera helmet if you want to save your neck while trying the initial jumps.

be smart and don't pull too low till you have things figured out.

Re: [mfob] Slider Question
I don't get it.
What's the difference between a terminal Skydive and a terminal BASE-jump?
Terminal velocity is the same for both.
I regularly jump an old Vector with an ACE 240 freepacked out of planes.
36 pilotchute, mesh slider, 9 foot bridle.
Normal terminal BASE-openings.
Some points not to get slammers:

-Slider all the way up to the slider stops.

-no slack in the lines between slider and a tight primary stow.

-Nose not fully exposed.

Besides that i use a clean pro pack for skydiving.
4 folds freepacked in the container.

Re: [BASE_1007] Slider Question
same here...
mojo 280, tailpocketed ,9 foot bridle, 36" f111,4 folds into old vector.
i even use a large mesh slider.
only thing i do is roll the nose.
no problems. i use this setup for demo jumps.
also to full terminal and wingsuit.

That was without a doubt the strangest sound I've ever heard on opening!

Re: [mfob] Slider Question
I make all my jumps from planes packing a Raven with base mods, I split roll the nose, and basically pro pack it, a large mesh slider, direct and in-direct control, a 28" PC, I get out at 2000 and open around 800', my landings are usually harder than my openings.Wink

That's a trick question, right?

low pull + dbag = bad idea.

think about it.

I never understood why people saw a difference, but they seem to do it quite often.

Why? If you take your canopy to terminal on BASE why not on a skydive?

Re: [BASE_1007] Slider Question
I was not asking about the differences between the two I think they are exactly the same, Gravity is constant.
Difference Im talking about is putting your base conopy in a skydiving rig, compared to a terminal base jump with a BASE rig.

Between the two I wondered, How do you pack a base canopy into a skydiving rig? A bite of mesh, or is it propacked and using a bag whereas youd just slide the slider into place and not take a bite with a band. Like Id pack a main skydiving canopy. On a BASE jump terminal or sub terminal, I take a bite of the mesh of the slider with a band. Same packjob as any BASE jump, except slider up, rather than no slider or slider down. Ya get my drift.

Re: [mfob] Slider Question
Funnily enough did some skydives on my Troll yesterday. Packed exactly the same as a slider up pack job and freepacked into the container. Openings were brisk as expected, but ok.....and all on heading even after wrestling it into the container.
