I agree entirely. great cliff. hand held is sweet.

and the whole "dont get your gear wet" "water landings are bad for equipment" that is totally bogus. its no big deal

That's not entirely true JT. The calendaring of ripstop nylon IS affected.

What we tend to call f-111 is run through heated rollers and smashed flat. That fills in the holes causing the fabric to become 0-3 cfm permeability fabric. Get it wet a few times and the fibers fill and loosen. They become round again losing the lower permeability properties. Agitate the canopy in the process and it becomes even more permeable and slightly distorted.

Canopies then lose much of their flare power much sooner.

In general a fresh water landing really is no big deal but don't suggest that it's without some ill effects.

One thing that helps preserve the fabric is pulling it out of the water tail-first, so water is not trapped in the tail and forced out through the fabric....

Maybe that's obvious, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Good call, same would apply while moving through water, drag it by the tail.

Edit to add: That's probably even more obvious though. Especially for anyone that's ever tried to drag it by the nose
