Clibming gear found in Utah (Not Moab)...
I found some climbing gear on top of a Utah cliff, in a popular climbing area (Not Moab). If you lost gear recently, please send me a PM.

I really doubt this gear belongs to any BASE jumper though. I only say this because of the type of gear that I have found.

I just know that if I had lost this gear, I would want someone to post it on the popular forums. I’m also going to post on RockCliming.com as well…

Do you think that somebody might have stashed it there for something? Stashing gear is fairly common in climbing. I've done it plenty of times. It would suck to get back up there and the gear is gone.

my guess would be it was a stash...you may want to give some for the local climbing shops a heads up too. they can pass the word around that you have it.

Normally climbing gear is stashed at the bottom of a climb Wink

I would agree with that...I guess I took "top of a cliff" as not being the top of a route. I have stashed at both top and bottom for different reasons...if i left gear at the top chances are I was in a big hurry to get down! Shocked

Good to know...

So should I put it back? I would be more than happy to go back tomorrow morning and put it back.

I can take it back and keep posting to try and find the owner.

I would hold on to it and keep trying to find the owner. chances they arent going to go back and look for it if they already know its gone. check the gear shops, post something on craigslist (just be sure you get it back to the rightful owner. Wink

Utah is big... maybe more specifics, i'm sure you're being vague for a reason.

There's some climbing gear on top of a biiiiig wall in utah, I asked about it before exit... apparently the guy that opened it used it for scoping out exit points, then left it. *shrug*

I'm only being vague because of this website's rules on naming objects. But I have made this exact same post on rockclimbing.com with the same username.

But if you are asking why I'm being vague about the gear, I just want to make sure that the right owner gets their gear back. But I guess I could always ask for a drivers license and record the name and address, in case the real owner shows up. What do you think?

All in all, the only reason I picked up the gear is because no one was on the wall or near by it. It is a pretty open area. Also, the thought had come to mind that someone had left it there on purpose. But because of how exposed it was to the sun, just knowing the effects of sun on gear, I rulled that out. But maybe for clibming gear that is not an issue.

Anyway... One of the local jumpers here PM'd me and gave me a couple locations to post the gear.

Thanks all for the suggestions and feedback!
