"La Dent du Géant" has been BASE jumped for nearly 20 years by french alpinists. This jump is not at all a premiere.
French don't feel the need to give publicity to the jump they do.

I can second MEA. That is, I know he tells the truth.

Let's recap- Nice day spent in the mountains with friends, climbing a nice casual but high alpine route with outstanding views of mountains, glaciers and blue skies. Then, a short freefall that turns into (I assume) an amazing, visually stunning and beautiful canopy ride down.
Hmmmm, sounds pretty fucking premiere to me! Cool

Yet, you decided to tell us that the jump they did was not of "premiere" status?!
Good grief.... Crazy Every jump I have done so far has been pretty freakin epic or premiere if you prefer. Sounds like you are doing it wrong.

Dave

ps- yes they do, just as much as anyone else.

Dude, chill out and take a deep breath. :) I'm pretty sure that the only thing MEA meant by saying "This jump is not at all a premiere" was that this jump in question wasn't the first time this particular object has been jumped (as it was wrongly assumed by other poster in this thread). I'm pretty sure that everyone who has ever been in the alps and made a BASE jump agrees that jumping the Dent du Geant is truly epic stuff and must be an amazing experience.

second jumper looked a bit scary with climbing harness and many snag points and doing a handheld with the bridal not routed... but what the hell, it's only a base jump and he had fund Smile

i totally get what you are saying... except for this part.

really? do we need to play the nationality card? as if France, like any other nation, has no faults? i think every reasonable person knows this to be untrue.

Re: [blitzkrieg] Video base-jump from Dent du Geant (Chamonix)
The only thing I can tell you is that there's a good bunch of french jumpers achieving some great jumps in Pakistan, Baffin, Alps who are not braging about their skills. If you mean the average BASE jumper, then yes, most french jumpers use video cameras and shoot their own jumps but this is for their own use not for publicity.
I have respect for Valery Rosov but everything what Rosov do is not necesserily PREMIERE just because he communicates A LOT world wide.

And what are you talking about "faults"???? This is totally off topic in this thread!

Re: [MEA] Video base-jump from Dent du Geant (Chamonix)
that's fine. i'm not arguing with you. but why didn't you just say that in the first post, instead of a blanket statement about the French.

that's all.

and i was only using "faults" as a generic representation in regards to the insinuation that publicity and bragging go hand in hand. nothing more.
