Tower Workers
Does anyone know what kind of cash tower workers make?

Thanks

Re: [Twoply] Tower Workers
At the company I worked at, the average was $13-22/hr. It was Cleveland-based... they might make more or less in other parts of the country. Let me know if you need a hookup, I have some contacts in Ohio and around Vegas.

Is it hard to get the job? What kind of qualification do you need? I wonder how it is in Europe, anyone works on towers around here? Always wanted to work at heights:)

Re: [Lukasz_Se] Tower Workers
Typically 2 years experience is required, but the company I worked at hired people with no tower experience specifically so they could be trained our way before learning any 'bad habits', as my boss put it. After hiring a bunch of people who freaked out half way up the ladder, after he spent time and money on their courses, the only requisite was that you get to the top of the tower without getting elvis legs.

Propably not gonna be so easy in sweden where you need special education to clean windowsTongue I just watched some program on national geographic where workers were changing top of 2000foot antenna, looked like a hard, but very cool job. They also mentioned it being the riskiest job in USA with around 20-30 fatalities a year...

Up until about 2-3 years ago, OSHA grouped tower workers in the general field of 'Construction'. When they broke it off as its own occupation, they found that it had something like 112 deaths per 100,000 participants per year.. the previous most dangerous job was Logging, which had something like 92 deaths per 100,000. The sample group is pretty small, though, as there are only something like 3,000 tower workers actively employed in the US.

Crab Fishermen might also be grouped in the general 'Offshore Fishing' category, and hence not directly compared to tower workers.
