Offheading on a PCA or DB
Is it possible to get a 180 on a DB? What would you guys prefer if you want to do a low cliff a direkt bag or a pca?

What you have not looked at is Static lines.

Although again, I have personally seen 90's off on static line. DBag is faster deployment, but is there a safe spot to dbag from?

The main question I ask myself, is the jump really worth it? Some jumps are just not worth the risk and trouble. There are thousands that are worth the risk though.... Somewhat personal choice.

I had a 180 from a pca a few weeks back. I believe I could have prevented it though.

The only thing I can imagine you mean by this is your launch was fucked up and the sole reason you had a 180.

A direct bag jump is a team effort. If the bag holder is a douche and can't hold the bag straight, i.e. twists it or drops it, then your toast.

It also depends on winds too. I saw a video of a guy on an antenna that had a good exit but the wind was estimated at over 45 off and the chute inflated at an unexpected 45 and then continued to turn into a full 180.

I would prefer no wind. I DB'd a jumper in a medium crosswind and he had a 180. I was an experienced DB jumper and bagmaster as was the jumper. Crosswinds screw things up. From causing the canopy to open upwind in lighter winds to a full on 180 with higher winds.
The most basic consideration on S/L, PCA, DB or go-n-throws is how the canopy will end up being presented to the wind that opens it.
Hope this helps.
Take care,

Damn, looks pretty sketchy just getting to the exit.

Don't forget, if you're listening for the rock impact instead of watching, around 170M the speed of sound starts distorting your rock drop times appreciably compared to the actual distance. Speed of sound is about 343M/s so a 170 M rock drop will have an extra 0.5 seconds that it takes the sound to get back up to you.

It´s a kind of Pain in the Ass to get there. You need a litte bit of climbing experience and go on ropes.

Nobody knows that cliff ;) This is south Germany.... Bavaria exactly. Where are you from? You wouldn´t freefall it, because you don´t know the landing area Tongue

No, it could have been prevented by not jumping. )

You said, I believe I could have prevented it though. That's why I figured jacked up exit.

Winds were a little stiff, and my exit was probably not the best. Packjob? I experimented with the tail a bit.

I've sl'd the thing a few times since in similar wind and everything's fine.

I think it was a combination of body position, packing, and wind.
