Does anyone know a good site for buying a new Black Jack Cannopy, where you can choose the colors?

You can use the PD web site's color picker to see the design (just pick a Spectre or other 7 cell), and then submit the order to Consolidated Rigging directly, via their web site On-Line Order System.

yet another new jumper not willing to spend 20 minutes doing the work on his own......

What do you mean, I have searched on the net but I didn't found a desent site. So for being sure of my purshase, I asked the question here... What is the big deal about asking something? Just try to find the best shop who has the best service...

as far as I know the pricing is going to be the same no matter where you buy - so you may as well buy directly and support the maker.

Unless you have a close local jumper who is a dealer, or you have some special price consideration (almost impossible, because the dealer agreements all specify that the dealer has to sell at the manufacturers recommended price), I'd buy direct from the manufacturer.

Remember that I'm a dealer (for these canopies as well as several of their competitors) myself, so if anything my ulterior motivation would be to get you to buy through me. But it makes more sense to buy direct unless you actually have a relationship with the dealer.

most modern gear is reliable. thus, many choose the model that they are most familiar. whether from a course, or from jump buddies, people get more of a warm and fuzzy buying a known.

since others helped them sort out what canopy to get, they typically ask the same folks "where can I get one?"

a significant portion of jumpers also go to Bridge Day. most manufacturers get booths at the trade show. thus most BASE jumpers have met the folks who made their gear. and if you can't/haven't made it to BD, it is entirely likely one of the folks a jumper hangs with has been to BD and knows what I just typed.

thus, if you want Apex, talk to Todd/Marta/Jimmy. if you want Badseed, talk to Brandon, or call Marty, or call Kathy, or call Sonic. I have met all the principles behind my gear, and feel comfortable talking to them. (it is also why there are so many sympathetic comments posted about a recent tragic death.)

since you do not seem to know this, you give the impression that you are not a regular BASE jumper. it seems likely that you are a skydiver who wants to buy BASE gear.

Is true... I am not a BASE jumper yet And I appreciate the info that I got here.. but I am most determine to base, but I also like to check things several times before taking action.
But that is no reason for giving no answer on an question about something, everybody must learn, and everybody learns on a different level...

It is the way I have choosen and I am looking for good advise as wel as equipement.

Yes. But the cost is generally quite high for Blackjacks (and Aces), because the logos are sewn onto the canopy by Performance Designs, at their shop, and each job is custom.

As an example, last year I got a custom logo BJ for a customer. The logo was basic text on both top and bottom skins, and it more than doubled the cost of the canopy.


You can find some other manufacturers who are willing to screen print logos, but I'd avoid this for two reasons:

1) You want to choose your canopy for the canopy, not for the frills, and;
2) Screen printing tends to fade and wear off over time

It's also theoretically possible to find a 3rd party screenprinter to work on a brand new canopy, but I doubt they'd do a very good job, since parachutes are pretty unique items with lots of curves and stitch lines.

I was not aware of that... I will just stay to one or two colors then.
Recently I read something about the difference in colors on the canopy, does the color realy make a difference in openingtime? I would say that different kind of colours will have a different patern on taking warmt...
I would prefer black and dark green...
Wich kind do you recommand for a man of 69 kg, aproxamly 1,78 meter high... with this I mean the lenght of the of the wires and the canopy itself

There is no need to limit the color selection. Any combination of colors is the same price. It's printed logos and designs (pictures, graphics, text) that cost extra.

Be aware, though, that some color combinations are going to be easier to pack than others, and also that some will be harder to see in flight than others.

My skydive erxperiences are at the moment 0 but I wil do an AFF cours this year and by the year after that I will make a journey in differnt counties and base by myself. Before that I will do a lot of windtunnels with coaching and about 50 skydives...

I know that it would be better for more skydive training but I won't take that time, nevertheless I will take my practice more then seroious.

Nor will I want do involve anybody for my conquest in myself, therefore I will BASE alone and in nature... Let's just say I am an adrenaline junkie with a goal in life but is still searching to try to reach the ultimate dream in life...absolute freedom and surender

How are you going to learn how to pack a BASE canopy, how to look after the gear, how to prepare it for all kinds of different jumps from different objects? How are you going to learn what are the right conditions to jump, how to evaluate the object, how to not get caught and finally how to jump and survive?

I (and many others) could go on and on...

Without a BASE course and mentoring, you will surely die if you try to do in on your own...

But what the hell do I know? I'm not a jumper...

50 should be plenty! Just focus on the windtunnel. That should help you most on those short static line jumps where your ability to hold a perfect sit-fly position in slow/dead air is CRUCIAL!

Great question! The length of the wires, as you said above is KEY! This is all very complicated and hard to explain here, but the guy you buy your canopy from can help. You'll need to know your height, weight, shoe size and the average altitude density of the area you will jump. Don't mess this up! It is very important! As is the type of WIRE!

Ofcourse I will know my gear by that time, and I will find someone durig my cours for explaining me how to make my parachute.
I have still two years left for searching all the things I should know... and I would like to get a mentor for base, but they all demand 200 or more skydives and I am just not willing to wait 4 years for starting, and all these jumps cost a lot of money.
And like you say, doesn't matter for you it is my life, and I know myself but I like to know more...

One thing is certain, I will base in two years, and if I die or not... tja ... you will here that then... but I am not an u suecide mision

But I know what I needed to know, I will make an update after my skydives in about a year, there I will practice with my gear I want to use in base... in the ways that is possible...

Tunnels are great for learning terminal freefall skills, except for tracking. Unfortunately, tracking (which can't be practiced in a tunnel very well) is the only terminal freefall skill that is also a BASE survival skill. Wind tunnels won't help with the survival skills for BASE.



You would be well served to outline a training progression for your skydives, focusing on BASE specific survival skills. The important thing isn't how many skydives you do, it's what skills you learn on those skydives.

You might also ask yourself if your goal is just to make BASE jumps, or if it is to enjoy and survive (relatively uninjured) those jumps. The practice can open up a lot more jumps that will not be available to you without those skills.



The important ratio is between your body weight and the parachute's surface area (square footage). The length ratios are irrelevant, and for that reason no one actually knows what they are off hand.

how much experience do you have wuth normsl surgery? brain surgery is very dangerous and you should hav at lest 200 norml surgrys before atempt brain surgry. som people strt befor but thay are special.
