Life span of a BASE canopy
Hello,
What is considered an average life for a BASE canopy? I know it should vary a lot depending on use, packing, water landings, etc but would like to have an idea.

F-111 = -/+400

ZP top front edge f-111= 500 +/-

All ZP top = 500+++++++

Verdicts still out on the newer lightweight canopies but have heard good things about the material used on those canopie!!!!!?????

Hop this helps you?

1 of mine lasted less than 50 jumps before I lost it in a river :-( At least it wasn't my lucky canopy.

This really depends on a lot of factors. Somebody who always lands in grassy areas & packs indoors will get a lot more life out of a canopy than somebody who does a lot of water landings, train track landings (grease), or sandy desert landings and packs out in the dirt. Also, running over barbed wire fences with a stashed canopy, tree landings, thorn bushes, and other such things contribute to a shorter life than your average skydiving canopy.
