Opinions on models of POV helmet cams
From what I saw around TF during Memorial Day it seems everybody is switching over to this type of system. So I'm curious about some of the opinions on the different brands by folks that are currently using these.

NOTE : The 1st option, Contour HD, isn't availible quite yet but should be shipping by the end of June. It is my understanding, that it will replace the VholdR.

For those that don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about, here's a Quarter, I mean link.

check this out sony hd lipstick

the best part is the price - 3K with the accessory package, $2,200 without - what a bargain . . .

the quality is pretty poor for all of them

I would go for a CX-100, only a slight increase in size and a huge leap forward in image quality

+1 for this post... you saving a little money and a small bit of size but the quality difference is night and day.. cx-100 is the weapon of choice for a helmet cam pov in my opinion for anyone looking. stay with sony brand products. also see dz.com photography site for reviews of cx-100 by aerial vidiots.

We are comparing apples and oranges. The less expensive POV helmet cams open up the market for jumpers not wanting to spend a ton of cash on something that is going to take some punishment in the base jumping world. The GoPro Wide has allowed me to take photos and video of all the sports I do with no worries of damage to the camera, water/snow sports included. Plus the stills are 5 mega pixels so quality is competitive. At the end of the day I want a camera that is small enough, light enough, and affordable enough for me to strap anywhere and do anything with and my sub-$200 GoPro has provided me with that.

The small difference in size allows you to put this cam in places other larger cams would never work. See attached........

if you want a more in-depth answer it would help if you defined what you want to do with your video

YouTube=GoPro Wide

Vimeo/Personal Site=CX-100

that new 58 inch Plasma screen TV you just bought to stimulate the economy=CX-100

the big time= Arriflex 435

in terms of size, I think the CX-100 is more streamlined than the GoPro Wide when helmet-mounted

see attached... shot with nikond80+sigma 15mm

way bigger than a gopro. heavier too. still worksand the quality is far superior.

not bashing the gopro at all, in face im about to order 5 or so... im just saying that they are all tools, and you use the right tool for the job.

the gopro is a neat little tool, for the rare time when the tradeoff of quality-size is necessary, like your ski-mount. those are badass.

but if atall possible ill be putting my cx100 out there. or a slr.

pros use pro gear. fuck it if it breaks.

my gear all goes by the survival of the fittest mentality...
