BD Cell Service
I'm going to either need to get a new cell plan or one of those prepaid cell phones for Bridge Day this year.

Any suggestions/experience as to what service works or doesn't work in the immediate bridge area?

All I know is that my Nextel has absolutely no signal any place close to the bridge.

not certain about reception in that area but i have a Verizon (Casio) Gz-one Boulder phone. It's indestructible - shock proof, drop proof, water proof, freeze proof, has a flashlight on it, electronic compass, stop watch, 3 split timers with 1/100 second resolution, video camera, camera, and GPS type navigator and local events search capability. it has great reception too. it lacks certain capabilities of other phones at the expense of being impervious to the lifestyle of an adventurer. i've gone swimming with it, fallen out of kayaks on the ocean with it in my pocket, etc. with no damage to the phone.

From my experience verizon works great above and around the bridge but gets sketchy down below.

Our Sprint phones work fine on the bridge, down in the LZ, and back at the Holiday Inn. Didn't Sprint/Nextel merge a few years back?

companies merged, but the cell services are still separate, they operate on different systems (that's as technical as i can get)

That's what I had thought also but evidently there is some technical differences between cell towers so it wasn't a matter of just adding Sprint coverage to Nextel coverage.

My girlfriends Verizon cell get OK signal and someone else said ATT was good?

It also depends on the age of your phone. They are migrating older Nextel customers to the Sprint network - and they have had some phone models that can use both networks without you knowing which one it finds.

I have AT&T and have service everywhere, including the LZ

sprint works great, only a little spotty in certain areas.

my sprint phone seemed to get great reception from under the little bridge too while rescuing law evaders. Tongue

Sprint works great down at the LZ.

In 96' when everyone was calling home to say "It's not me, I'm okay." I let a few folks use my phone cause they had some of those pre paid deals.
