Interested in Attending Bridge Day 2009
I've been a lurker on this site for awhile, reading many threads, and over the past year I've always wanted to BASE jump, but now I'm serious about getting into it. I've talked to a couple local jumpers from my DZ, who were able to answer some questions, and I was hoping the rest of you could shed some light on the others I have. I want to attend Bridge Day 2009 for my first jump, and this year I actually can make the scheduled date. I heard one person say that registration ends on June 1st, and others say that registration starts July 1st. The official site seems to indicate July 1st as well, but that was for last year. I just need some confirmation on this if anybody knows.
One of the local jumpers at my DZ has offered to mentor me on pretty much everything, except for the jumping itself. He has over 100 jumps, and is going to go over packing, exit positions, gear, etc.
Speaking of gear...
I'm 5'10", 190lbs, with an athletic build. Aside from recommended canopy sizing, I'm wondering what I should do about gear for Bridge Day. On the site they recommend renting from one of the main manufacturers.
Which manufacturers are generally recommended for new jumpers, and what type of BASE system should I look into renting for both ground training, and the actual jump itself?
I currently jump a Spectre 190 for skydiving. Is there a way to set up a BASE canopy on a skydiving rig in order to practice landings? I'm pretty confident in my landing abilities, but then again I am used to ZP, and not F111.
I hope I'm coming across this in the right way, but I'm very serious about attending Bridge Day, and depending on how I like it, if I want to actually get into BASE for awhile.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
