So i almost stepped on a pretty big snake last night on the way to a tower. It startled me a little bit but was really no big deal. It got me thinking: We are always walking around in remote places most of the time at night. I was wondering how many of yall have ran into a scary creature from the blackness of the woods, if so lets here how you escaped getting man raped by a bear.

i was bitten twice by a snake twice on my lower leg a few months ago. it wasn't poisonous thank goodness. been charged by alligators, dealt with wild boars, charging bulls, charging horses, seen mountain lions, been harassed by bees, been partially consumed by fire ants, harassed by turkey vultures, dealt with feral pigs, dealt with escape from urban pigs, dealt with skunks. the Houston crew and a Mexican jumper ran into a problem with a large owl once while i stayed on the ground.

I used to jump a building in downtown Phoenix several times a week while it was under construction. On several occasions, while opening the gate to the construction site, hookers would proposition me. I would tell them that in about 20 minutes I would be landing a parachute in the parking lot and we could work out a deal then. They always called me names and walked off. What the fuck??

After an unsuccessful jump one night myself and two other were walking back through a fenced in field on a very dark no moon night. We noticed dark spots in the darkness which we determined were cows. One of the jumpers started clapping their hands to get them to move...next thing we knew they started running around us and we still couldnt see them. We just stood still as they thundered around us and hoped we didnt get run over.
We've also had run ins with coyotes and of course we love to torment the peacocks

I dont think you have to worry about "poisonous" snakes, sinse they are "venomous"

 

None of these were while jumping, but while working on towers:

-Battled bees and wasps on several occasions, one time being forced to evacuate after my trainee and I sprayed each others bare skin down with our last two remaining cans of RAID to make the bees stop landing on us
-Had to drive 4 hours and climb to the top of a tower to get a block/pulley that I had forgotten previously, and was repeatedly dive bombed by some kind of eagle or falcon from the moment I stepped foot on the tower. It would just fly out into the distance, then turn around, line up, and go straight for my face with its claws at full speed. I whipped out my exacto knife and tried to get a good hack at it each time it attacked, and climb a few pegs while it circled. I drew blood, but it still wouldn't stop..
-Shoved my head in holes only to get a mouth full of dead bird
-A fleeing, freaking out squirrel knocked my co-worker's phone out of his hand from 200 feet, shattering it on the ground. Later that day, the crappy drill dropped a drill bit and left a 1/4 inch hole in the work truck's windshield
-More bees. Tons of them. Cinci's bee population must be addicted to RF. On one occasion, while being swarmed by bees and fighting them off with a constant supply of Raid being sent up on the rope, a bunch of birds started dive bombing and eating the bees out of the air. I made a comment that it was like World War III, and immediately after I said that, we got buzzed at almost eye level by a diamond formation of four fighter jets. Wierd day.

 
Was the bee swam on the antina pulsating with a blue light like in that old tv movie where they became super intelegent monsters an took over the world?

Always wondered how the aussie jumpers don't get killed by the top ten venomous snakes in the world, being in that thier habitat is their l.z.! Steve irwin made it seem like you couldn't take a stroll in the blue mountains without getting killed or mamed by some aggressive creature

You know, it was pulsing with a red light at night, and had an occasional white strobe-like flash on one-second intervals during the day. Hmmmm...

I was climbing a 1500ft A in TX solo and at about 200 ft I noticed vultures circling me. They circled the antenna, landing on the antenna about a hundred feet below me every once in while, all the way up to about 1000. Didn't notice them at all after that, but it kind of creeped me out.

on a hike on oahu within the last year, (not a BASE jump), i noticed these cute little baby cattle running around, thinking how cool these little things looked, i came around a corner to meet a massive full sized bull, massive horns, i guess it weighed 1500 lbs. it saw us near its kids, and started to flick its tail agressively and stomp its hooves on the ground. this scared the ever living shit out of me because there was nothing to hide behind and directly behind me was a huge wall of thorn bushes. luckily we slowly backed off and away. i didnt feel like making its aquaintance that day

Encountering a Ginger on an object or anywhere else for that matter is the most terrifying thing ever.

Especially if you're caught off-guard, without sunglasses

Some of my jumps in Brazil have been a bit treacherous. I saw lots of giant black caranguejeira spiders and few coral snakes.

In the UK the worst I have had is being pooped on a by an extremely vexed seabird. I have also had to do a runner from a hurd of cows, but thats it.

crazy legs picked up the new nickname "fanta pants" from an aussie chick while in the valley two weeks ago. it seems he matches the soft drink

two bulls locked inside the fense at the base of an antenna. almost got trampled but my rodeo clown jumped out and saved me

Epi: Are those the same buzzards I ran into on the top of that same tower? They didn't swoop me, but I think one of them tried to shit on me!

I was just chased by pigs the other night.

jumped an bald eagle's nest that was built on a tower several times. we thought it was a turkey vulture's. never saw the thing while jumping, but his nest was huge and he spent the days flying the tower and landing area.

Same object, but I saw the eagle..
I was climbing and heard a bang. Looked over and there it was like 4 feet from me. I just stayed still (as not to piss it off) and it backed up and jumped off. It screamed and flew around me almost all the way to the top.
Haven't been back since..

Couple nights ago after lots of sushi & fun
29 of us went to the bridge, 18+ jumped,
and while waiting in the LZ for the rest of
the load to go a huge mule deer came out
of the bushes and ran by us - very cool.

I filmed a momma and baby whale after a sunrise load off my favorite little span - west coast usa.

dont forget about the cow flinging that other cow out its snapper on the hike out to that A i didnt get to jump.

 i ran into a few mexican migrant workers who were camping out in the orange groves. caught me off guard.

That's right, how could I forget that one. Wild shit!!

On my first B we were two floors up, I poked my head around the corner of the stairwell and saw a huge fucking German Shepherd/Alsatian attack dog padding silently away from the the stairs. I turned back to my buddy with wide-eyes, and mouthed "big fucking dog" to him, then waited a few moments and as silently as possible kept creeping up the stairs.

2 more floors up the security company had put a shitty makeshift fence in place over the stairway to stop the dog from roaming around all 38 floors. We made a little bit of noise getting over that thing and the dog started barking and we could hear it running our way - then we heard the security guard yelling at the dog to shut-up.

Thank goodness the security guard couldn't hear as well as the dog! We ran quickly and quietly up the next few floors to put some distance between ourselves and the security, then walked up the rest and had a sweet jump!

i tried to fight a dog once, non-base-related. it did not work out so well for me.

I was hiking accross the field to the base of an A to do a solo and a coyote/ small wolf thing started following me. I kept walking while trying not to seem like I was running. The thing circled around and got in front of me and blocked my path. It stayed there and was eyeballing me. I held my rig over my head and started to growl loudly to try and act big and threatening. It reared back and let loose with an ear splitting howl. I think I shit my pants and walked around him and just about hurdled the fence at the base.

I jumped, landed and was hiking back to the car when I noticed he was back behind me following me again.
