Sliders
Obviously im new to Skydiving and BASE and i have alot of questions.
My biggest question is whats the difference between rigging your slider up and having it down.
I do know what a slider is im just not sure what all the differences would be.
Im pretty sure it is with how fast the canopy inflates.
thanks

Nah, this will work better. Drogue = Pilot chute in the following informative article.

IMO, your skydiving questions take more priority and precendence over base questions. Finding the answers and a thorough understanding of skydiving will help for answering base questions. And this is not a skydiving forum.

Try a hop & pop with the slider down on a skydiving canopy out of a plane. It will probably hospitalize you. That is the difference.

If you're sincere about this question, then I must ask, what is your current experience level in skydiving? I must also guess you have not done any base jumps yet given the nature of the question. Am I right?

You are correct. The slider is a reefing system designed to help with a sequenced deployment. It keeps the canopy from expanding suddenly.

Slider off or down on a skydive would likely be destructive to not only you but your equipment as well.

Now you do. Learning new things daily is important.

I once on a skyjump, had connected 2 bridals in tandem to my pc. The difference in opening time was minimal..

Re: [mtbriles] Sliders
Hey dude, the slider holds the canopy together for a second or two (on a base canopy) and slides down your lines once the force of the opening canopy overcomes the force of the air pushing up against it. This results in a slower opening than if you were to pack slider down or remove the slider altogether. Please don't don't get yourself killed from this dangerous and valuable information.
