Cargo Pants
Sorry if it's been talked about before but i am having a hard time finding it via search.

Can anyone recomend some good cargo pants for bandit jumps? I seem to be having a hard time finding all of the qualities i want. (Tough and durable, good pocketspace, and water resistant.) Can anyone make some recomendations? I really like the durability of denium but packetspace is very limited and they aren't the most desirable pants to be wearing on long hikes.

Thanks

-J

I just decided to use the ACU pants the army gave me because I didnt have anything else for a certain jump, I havent stopped using them ever since. You can beat the hell out of em and they keep going.

Re: [jtnesbitt] Cargo Pants
Wrangler cargo pants at Wally world are the best deal out there at about $15 bucks.

Waterproof ? No. You're looking at $50 at least for that feature.

Durable ? Well, I scooted around on hardwood floors for months and never wore the seat out of any of 'em.

I agree completly. Plus, if I tear them I can just turn them in for a new pair. Wink Thanks for supporting BASE Mr. Taxpayer

Step 1: Join Army
Step 2: Receive BASE specific cargo pants.

Seems reasonable.

I know right. ha.

But in all seriousness you can buy the army cargo pant online and rangerjoes.com for example. They work great and there is a total of 8 pockets in one pair of pants.

Re: [AndrewKarnowski] Cargo Pants
Yeah those Troy Lee pants look like they would be great for base, except for the reflective piping. Too bad they are so expensive.

There are many different brands of MX pants that are highly durable and zip off to shorts, etc. As with most things if you don't have to have this years trend in color you can easily find some bargin pricing by searching around on the web.

BDU and ACU pants are cool, but camo is SO last year. Tongue

for big hikes i like the zip off nylon cargos (made by moose river, northface, etc.) they're light and water resistant and dry really fast.

for tougher more durable applications, my newer favorites are http://www.cryeprecision.com/...232R/Combat+Pants+Ac

they're pricy, but for me.. well those government units that don't exist supply them.Tongue

I use some paintball pants that i have had for a while. They usually have reinforced knees and a lot of pockets. Just an idea

Re: [milkflyrockclimb] Cargo Pants
Maybe you got some badass first gen ACU's or something, but mine suck as far as durability. I'd go with BDU's, and for water proof, use some scotchgard or something.

except in training and combat... pockets ripping and velcro wearing out, seams coming out.. all comments from operators...

now, old school BDU's on the other hand are non stop!

unless of course you took a seam ripper...took out the velcro and put the buttons back in like the old bdu's

Re: [milkflyrockclimb] Cargo Pants
nevertheless, the pockets would still rip, as they typically rip not fromteh top of the pocket but from the middle verticle seams Shocked

Re: [leroydb] Cargo Pants
for cereal. ACUs are crap. and the first generation were the worst. mine came completely apart after only a couple months in the desert.Crazy

the newer fire retardant ones they gave me seem a little sturdier, but i'll probably never wear them so... ??

Re: [leroydb] Cargo Pants
I acquired myself some BDU pants and the butt seam ripped out during the first wash.

So I acquired another and it's been super durable. I can imagine the company with the cushy gov't contract pumping out pants has some poor quality control.

Mine have the buttons on the pockets. According to another post, that makes them old school. Acquired them new from a gov't distribution facility 1.5 to 2 yrs ago.

Re: [Ten48] Cargo Pants
I am working right by Nadic labs in Mass. That is where they test all the up and coming army gear. I have the NEW ACU's. They are great. Less velcro, stonger and better pockets. To include bringing some buttons back. They should start to be issued out in the next 6 months.

Ody

P.S. Got my ass chewed for wearing them out in Ft. Lewis as they are not authorized yet.

Re: [Ten48] Cargo Pants
All BDU's have buttons. They are the "old school" woodland camo. The ACU's are the new pixel camo and unless modified they all have velcro, a shit load of velcro all over them. The fire retardant ones I got are even weaker material. In my experience (other than the crotch seem) the seems aren't the issue it's the material itself. The cargo pockets will blow out in the middile of the pocket, the knees tear out easy, wholes just show up at random from wear and then get bigger and bigger. A set of my fire retardants got a whole in the right cargo pocket the first day I wore them, from a 556 mag. Just walking about a mile to the DFAC and back and all of a sudden my I heard a clink and felt my mag fall out of my cargo pocket on the ground. Shitty material. Plus side is they don't melt to you like regular ACU's, but unfortunately my unit hasn't been able to replace them and all four pairs of pants are already toast. Crazy

That sounds fucking awesome. Do you know if there's a way to buy them now? I want some bad. Are they fire retardant?

I picked up a new pair of troy lee's last year for $80 or so, all black, just have to take some sand paper to the reflective piping to eliminate sheen. Only issue i have is they make aweful swishing sound when I walk... not exactly the most stealthy approach for a bandit jump.

Target has good cargo pants. Very comfortable and functional. Your clothing won't last long anyway in BASE jumping due to the rough nature of the sport. Most of my cargo pants only last two or three months when I'm actively jumping.
