Helmets
I would like to get helmet just for BASE. Any Recommendations? Would you recommend the open face with the chin guard or just one for the dome

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
Get a skateboard helmet if you're looking for safety. Top mount skydiving helmet for video. That doesn't provide as much protection though

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
it really depends on what you are using it for. how important or do u use video. are u doing lots of terminal stuff or sneaky stuff.. mountain bike full face helmets off the best protection to weight ratio. u can mount a camera on it with some ingenuity. the only down side is they are a little big and can suck to stash bag or haul on the long climbs. skydiving helmets offer little protection but great for video and your camera. go with the skull cap type if you dont care about video, want compact and light, but decent protection. i would also take into account the regular stuff u jump and want kind of lz's... cheeers

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
i use a Bell Bellistic mountain bike helmet. it protects the chin and has vents so it's not too hot to climb in. i removed the visor in case of snags.

Get a "Full-Face" Giro mountain bike helmet, for sure.
That's what you need!

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
I bought a Giro skiing helmet 4 years ago. It is my BASE, skydiving and skiing helmet.
Similar to this... http://www.giro.com/...snow/adult/encore_2/
Except mine has plastic over the ears too which I like. I made a mount out of $5 worth of aluminum that holds a still camera or video camera just perfect. No bolts so it won`t lobotimize me in a bad crash. Any ski helmet that is FIS rated is good. Skydiving helmets are garbage as far as protecting your head; they don;t even have any impact foam. I also believe that they give a false sense of security.
For those sketchy/extra scary jumps I have a Bell fullface mtn bike helmet too although the visibility is not as good as other full face helmets.

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
I took and old Giro G10 ski helmet and took off the insulating ear pads. I have seen a lot of videos with the full skydive helmets but the consensus seems to be stay away from those. if the ski helmet is to warm I'm probably going to buy a skate helmet. I'm mostly jumping bridges and antenna until I feel ready for Moab.

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
Several.

Have jumped several in Base, full face Giro, Protec, cookie rok and cookie gas, FF2....

Best protection, anything but skydiving helmets, downhill fullface mtn bike are best but somewhat bigger. Protec is the simplest and cheapest for open face. Get one of those at first.

Skydiving are great, but offer little protection. OK for terminal where object seperation will NOT be an issue....

There will always be a tradeoff, especially in slider off, but for the newer jumper, get a F*cking protec and worry about the video later. Besides, base lends itself to easy outside video, and 1st person slider off non 2 way video is generally boring unless the object is difficult or you F*ck up.

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
A Pro-Tec Ace saved my melon yesterday, they are great protection for the price. Only con for me is that it's not full-face, but I like having complete peripheral vision. If you're not concerned about video like me, that might be an inexpensive yet effective option for you.

Re: [BridgeDiver] Helmets
i got a giro remedy a couple of months ago.

ratio of weight, protection and price was best i could find, also the giro came with a lot of good recommendations (older threads if you care to search)

issue: it's big, so you might have issues stashing it in the stashbag and or climbing tight stuff. but for gnarly LZs i won't jump anything else anymore.

be safe,

Get a Bonehead Mamba. Great helmet and almost no weight

Re: [Hartkor_Fakker] Helmets
I don't think the Mamba offers very much impact protection

Re: [grayhghost] Helmets
I have seen a protec bring a man back from the dead... I am not KIDDING!

However, I have seen accidents with a cliff strike that cracked a mans left globe and is now blind. The protect would have done little or nothing for that incident.

So, what do you plan to jump??????

I have 5 or 6 helmets for different types of jumps. I can tell you that the full face BELL others talked about are awesome. And when the times comes that you actually need it, money is no object! But the object will certainly be HARD and unforgiving...
