does anyone have any experience jumping from a paraglider?

Re: [seldomseen_mark] paraglider jumps
jumping from a tandem paraglider? or cutting your own away/falling out of the harness?
(yes)

Re: [seldomseen_mark] paraglider jumps
jumped 2wice from one. once from 1200 ft and a tracking suit, and another from 2k in a wingsuit.

I was obviously in the front seat, and each time I just sat forward and rolled out. I stayed tucked for 1-2 maybe 3 sec and then opened up with the wingsuit jump. the first jump I just rolled out, trying not to rock the boat...

very fun stuff

edit to add: powered paraglider trike jumps

1 jump from a tandem paraglider. I unclipped , hung on the riser links and reversed myself so I was crouching on the passenger seat facing the tandem master, then just rolled out backwards. Seemed quite easy.

One from a powered paraglider. 2000 ft, motor off...a lot like a balloon jump.

yes...fun!

Yes, a few.

From tandem, just unclip and rolled forward (make sure leg straps are nicely tucked out of the way)

One frontloop and deploy. At 150m it becomes a bit hairy though Smile

Re: [seldomseen_mark] paraglider jumps
I've done a dozen or so jumps from paragliders and ultralights. Be careful...I consider paraglider jumps MORE dangerous than your average BASE jump. There's a lot that can go wrong, and if it does you're likely to take the paraglider pilot in with you.

Make sure your PC is well stowed. Check it regularly during the flight. If it comes out during flight, your canopy will almost certainly entangle with the paraglider.

Be sure you plan your exit well ahead of time with the pilot. There are a lot of wires that you could get caught on when launching.

Some pilots will want you to just kind of fall off, rather than doing a hard launch. If it's a paraglider trike, you should be okay doing a hard launch (and may have to in order to clear steering lines), but make sure the pilot knows this.

Can you give us some more details about what kind of paraglider jump you want to do? Is it a paraglider trike, or a tandem paraglider? Will you be seated in front or behind?

Re: [seldomseen_mark] paraglider jumps
Easy way I found was to stand up in the seat. If you're stowed (which you probably should be), not much can go wrong this way.

Don't try and push off; the tandem harness will only swing away from you under the wing. Rather, just gently lean forward and fall off. Bit like most of my BASE jumps. LaughTongue

Anyone from or in southern California interested in doing paraglider exit email me- mrbradgeary@yahoo.com. I'm new to skydiving and base and can't offer to much advise but am an experienced PG pilot willing to do a few runs for experienced jumpers.

Hell of an offer man. Someone's going to appreciate it.

If the harness you have on doesn't have a seat, it could be quite cumbersome to get off and exit.

Re: [Pendragon] paraglider jumps
yep, i had that too... when i tried to "exit", the bar i had my feet on just swung backwards and i went head down. not funny in the first two seconds, but at 1500 ft it was quite ok to get stable and deploy in a good position.

when i landed on the designated LZ some PG pilot walked up to me an asked if i just jumped out of the PG. when i asked why he said: "when i saw you approaching i was wondering who would be flying such an old, big, rectangular mattress nowadays (it was an older guy)... until i realized there was a tandem up there with just one guy in it."

Re: [seldomseen_mark] paraglider jumps
just did my first a week ago.... i got 120 meters over the beach.

biggest tip:

guard your cutaway handle, especially if it's a pillow.

watch the pc on exit

and try to keep your head up....

Yes, as long as you spot your glider. It will flys/feels much different on base risers.

Re: [zmorlock] paraglider jumps
have any of you had any problems finding the right day to jump? (Lack of thermalling, bad winds etc...) The problem being if you pack slider up for a 1-2k ft jump and find yourself in a slow descent at 500 ft. Do you just call it a day or jump s/u at 500 ft? Any have any height limits either where you would rather not jump your base rig and pull out the skydive rig?
Shortcut
Re: [seldomseen_mark] paraglider jumps
Biggest problem i've had is recovering the paraglider and getting it to land where you want. I usually weigh down a toggle before jumping. I've jumped over a bay and landed on the beach while having the paraglider land in the water. I had to make sure the lifeguards knew what was going on. Best thing to tell them is that you are going to practice an "emergency bail out procedure"
Shortcut
Re: [TK.Ghost] paraglider jumps
Most people around here weigh down the toggles, the wings usually do a good job of spiraling straight down. Do you jump with any height restrictions? For reasons of the wing having a little too much altitude to make up a lot of ground and spiral somewhere you didn't plan, or a height you would prefer to maybe use a skydive rig?

Hi,

I do it a lot. At first I went from tandems, but the novelty wears off for the pilot pretty quickly so now I do this:
