Wingsuit and Knee pads

Wingsuit base jumpers.

can you let me know, are most wingsuit base jumpers, jumping with knee pads under your wingsuits. Or are most feeling that the pads are in some way reducing the suits performance.

Would be interested on Wingsuit jumpers opinions.

Nope, am doing a slightly unorthodox technique of landing on feet instead of knees. It can take some canopy control practice but once you get it it's a little better.

I'm not a wingsuit jumper myself, but you're basically asking whether increased flight performance from not wearing pads outweighs whatever reasons have been leading you to wear knee pads on your other jumps. You might be asking this of folks landing in giant grassy fields, or of people who land (like we often do around here) in fist- and head-sized rubble. You might be talking to people whose risk assessment as led them never to wear armour of any kind, or to people who wear full-body armour every time.

I can wear my Dainese armour under jeans without looking like I've got some horrible inflammatory disease, so I strongly suspect that the difference in flight characteristics is small. My recommendation (for what it's worth) would be to wear what has always made you comfortable, and for the same reasons, and get good at flying your suit.

Re: [gazzoom] Wingsuit and Knee pads
I wear kneepads on all my jumps except on wingsuit jumps , i don't feel confortable with them under my suit , also when I do W/S jumps I usually have plenty of time to select a good landing area free of obstacles, so far have landed on my feet most of the time.

I do feel like a little performance can be lost but on my case is the restriction factor that keeps me from using them

cheers

Re: [gazzoom] Wingsuit and Knee pads
I don't where them on wingsuit base jumps, but I have the six six one d30 knee pad and it is pretty low profile.

I wear them on other jumps and like how they fit, low profile and all. Expensive, and you have to remove your shoes to put them on but nice....

Then again, if I need them on a wingsuit base jump, what the hell am I landing on/in? Cause I'd probably tear the hell out of the suit....

Re: [gazzoom] Wingsuit and Knee pads
yep I wear knee pads on wingsuit flights,
Good quality soft pads fit well under the wingsuit creating minimal drag and providing minimal peace of mind... just in case of a slightly imperfect landing.
..and I wear a helmet for the same reason.

Re: [Trae] Wingsuit and Knee pads
+1 for soft pads under the suit. Hell I'd wear body armor if it would fit. Ever fly off a tower in full darkness over a freshly plowed OR overgrown field? How about EG in Mexico? That LZ is full of rocks, and if you miss it, well you will have wished you had on more than just knee pads. I've jumped places where the LZ is all grassy and its sunny and nice out, but just in case I miss, they are great to have for alternate landing areas. Sure i'd like to stand up all landings, but I don't, and have tripped over my suit on landing more than one occasion since i don't unzip the legs on WSB.
Finally, I'm a fat AMERICAN so my loss of performance due to increased drag or deformation of flying surface (and I do believe there is one albeit minimal) is not really a factor for me. Smile
So that's my measly contribution, but its a personal choice I reckon.
