Thought I would share a story i found amusing from this weekend.

So I got a new canopy and still have to wait a little while until my new container gets here. In the meantime I am borrowing a homemade (by a rigger) velcro container that had never been jumped. It was quite a tight fit but my mentor who has a lot of experience with velcro managed to get it in the container. he just warned me to be careful on the climb. The object was a 270' A.

So we start climbing and he is climbing up behind me. There are 3 platforms ont he way up. Everytime we hit a platform he starts padding down and fussing with the velcro and making sure its good. Every now and then when climbing he would say "careful, careful." I figured he was just making extra shoudl i was good because I was listenign intently for any velcro sounds and didnt hear any more than usual on a climb. We get almost to the top, I probably have 10 rungs to go. At this point I am climbing faster as the adreneline kicks in. My mentor from behind me yells "careful dude!" I pause, then start going again only to hear "dude take it easy!" Now I am dumbfounded, but i dont say anything and start to climb the final few rungs when i hear something...

...the plastic container half full of tic tacs in my pocket. My mentor was hearing those the entire climb and thought it was the velcro coming undone. Whoops! I felt bad though cuz he no doubt was hearing that the entire climb thinking he was gonna get a face full of canopy at any moment.

Yea, it's hard to sneak around with Tic-Tacs in your pocket...

Coming from the guy day blazing Piney in his avatar AND got busted for it by a ranger, pfft.

My mum says if i chew gum and accidentally swallow it, it'll tie around my insides and i'll die. Also that means i have to spit it out, meaning a small animal could have the same fate and i'd feel awful.

Gum is too American for me, if i wanna look cool and relaxed i'll just smoke a Cuban.

I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of your statement which was a pretty stupid one in all honesty, i mean come on.

And I'd like to point out that the entire thread is tongue-in-cheek and that my response was along the same lines.

If we were actually having an in depth discussion on breath control devices and their effect on tower climbing in the BASE environment then this thread probably would have been moved over to the "BASE Technical" forum.

I'm just saying...
