Re: [pope] interesting discussion on BASE
Reality check. most people out there will never understand this activity. To them we're all just morons with no regard for the lives we affect when we go in. And we go in because we don't give a fuck about safety. And all this coming from fucking drag racers. And of course the snapperhead that rides a fucking R1. What a bunch of douche bags. You could talk till your purple and still never convince these guys that our freedom to choose how we spend our time is no different from theirs. And please, are they fucking kidding me. Is a ground impact from a total malfunction whilst BASE jumping really that much more traumatic than a drag racer that has been turned into a crispy critter when his fuel cell accidently exploded. Or wosre even than a road racer that comes of his bike and hits oncoming traffic at 200mi/hr. I think not. It's all bad and it sucks to be they guy that has to deal with it but that's life. You want to be a fireman paramedic and get paid stupid money to work 9 days a month, then suck it up. And coroners??? What the fuck else are they going to do? I feel I have the rights to these opinions not just because I am a BASE jumper but like what was suggested by some on that forum, I have scraped up remains of jumpers, performed cpr on bodies, been the first on the scene and I'm still here. What we do is dangerous. It does have a very high attrition rate but fuck it. We are still able to go out and have fun without Innocent bystanders getting injured. All we do is injure/kill ourselves. And as for premiums going through the roof. FUCK THAT. Insurance companies have been raping the American public for decades. Long before we became an issue. Obese Americans do more for increased premiums than BASE jumpers will ever do.

(I love it when ex-marines get all fired up)

Re: [pope] interesting discussion on BASE
exactly... with jumpers you only have to clean up a body... not a car too.... but i bet the fuck heads on that forum do two things: post online and continue to build their super awesome car that has never once been raced or whatever

I bet if you did a nationwide poll of ems/fire/police what they spend more time cleaning up it would 100% traffic accidents vs 0% base accidents

Re: [pope] interesting discussion on BASE
I just don't understand how another group of enthusiasts who also-

1. Enjoy a dangerous activity
2. Constantly receive stereotypical generalizations from the misinformed public
3. Often perform illegal activities

Can be so closed minded about another activity with similar attributes.

I assume its just misdirected anger due to fearing activities you cannot understand nor imagine yourself partaking in.

Either way the closed mindedness of it all makes me angry.

I'd actually be willing to bet that BASE jumping/jumpers don't really have ANY impact on premiums as a whole...

People will always voice an opinion, sometimes in favor with our beliefs and sometimes not. If we find ourselves getting bothered and affected personally by this, thereby getting angry and then going and insulting them in the same way, nothing will ever be solved. in order to be truly effective, in the areas we are passionate about we need to be able to step away from and view them as seperate from ourself, as an objective entity, not subjectively letting our emotions get in the way.

Quote:
47 Jan Davis - Oct 22, 1999 Jan Davis
Object: Earth
Location: UNITED STATES, CALIFORNIA, Yosemite (El Capitan)
COD: Impact (Total)
Description:
This is El Capitan's 3rd BASE fatality and Yosemite's 5th BASE fatality overall. This occurred during a planned protest jump in front of Park Rangers and the media. By prior arrangement Park Service officials agreed not to prevent the jumps but insisted jumpers would be arrested upon landing and their gear would be confiscated. This caused some jumpers to switch to their "B" gear. Jan jumped a system with an older style leg mounted pilot chute pouch when she is used to jumping a pilot chute stowed in a BOC pouch. After a normal delay she instinctively reached for the bottom of the container and after failing to find the pilot chute handle ran out of time before figuring things out. I helped spread Jan's ashes over Lake Elsinore and over 400 jumpers and friends attended her memorial. She's missed by all who knew her.

"Interesting thing about this is, it's not true; and not in the way you would imagine. Jan was at top and was worried about losing a brand new rig, she removed hers and borrowed a "B" rig to jump. Before she put the rig on she was distracted by a person (unknown) telling her they indeed were NOT arresting jumpers. She gave the "B" rig back to the ownr and went ahead and jumped having failed to put her rig back on. There IS video (watched it) and I heard this story from my battalion chief who was a fire captain at the scene."
( qutoe from cobra....)

Really, is that true? sounds like a nightmare...

hahaha... !!!

Unfortunately TheCobraGuy0 was a bit aggressive in his approach and was the final straw to close the thread. I was kind of enjoying reading it.

If you go to another site, be nice whether you want to or not. No need to open your mouth and confirm idiocy, they feel that way already.

TheCobraGuy0, you're obviously someone from here. I'm not saying you're an idiot but they believe otherwise. Oh well... Laugh

Holy fucking shit it's obvious most posters there are selfish assholes. I read more than one "wasted life" comments. Do these people seriously not think their lives are fulfilled in their 9-5s, their suburb houses, their nascar and hours on the internet? Who the fuck is anyone else to judge people? Granted, I'm judging.

Now I'm in a bad mood.

Unsure

I'll just go back to editing my BASE vid.

If only that were true. I've spent a LOT more money BASE jumping than I ever did skydiving (both per jump and in aggregate).

You blew it. Laugh

What you should have done was posted links to all of the YouTube videos of idiots wiping out hordes of spectators with their wild street racing stunts. There are plenty of those.

You could have also brought up how their cars are directly responsible for global warming.
