You NEVER know
I'll preface this with some might consider this not really 'BASE related' but if you understand my theme here, its everything BASE related.

Please google Nick Adenhart. He passed away unfortuanetly in a car accident this morning. Last night, he pitched his best game of his short career for the MLB team the LA Angels of Anaheim. He was a classmate of mine from Williamsport High School, class of '04. Our class was a total size of about 225. He was pitching 96 mph as a kid in high school and was looking to be the 'next big thing' in MLB pitching. 22 years young. I was driving home and just thinking how unfair that seemed. Absolutley unfair. I come to find out, another kid from my high school died in a seperate accident. Complete coincidence. You really NEVER know.

And then we obviously have Shane. I never knew the guy but watched so many of his videos. It does without saying that he was an inspiration. And then you hear the news. You really NEVER know.

But isnt that the point of this fucking sport? Isnt that why we do everything we do? Isnt that what we're looking for?

I'm sorry, but when I hear about somebody going in and I hear all this blaming of who let who do what and who oversaw that and if he would have done this it would have been ok then it fucking pisses me off. I want to fucking live, thats why I BASE jump, not because I want to die.

This kid Nick Adenhart was 22 years old and pitching professionally in front of millions. He lived, he is living, and always will live. Ask your fucking bum next door that works in a cubicle if he can say the same.

You NEVER know. Live it while you can before some drunk driver runs a red light and takes it all from you.

Keep it real,
Kevin

on a different but similar note.

i have lost 4 of my highschool classmates in the last year, due to oxycontin overdoses / mixing pill cocktails.
it saddens me to hear about friends/aquaintances i knew dying, and when i hear its because of abusing perscription medication it sickens me.

i guess all i can do is continue the pursuit of living the dream instead of sticking around my hometown dying from chasing a stupid, useless feel good moment.

sorry about your friend man

Yess indeed live your life like it was your last day!

Just dont take the freedom away from all the others who like to do what you do with stupid actions that will make more regulations. There is a reason why it is speed limits, and if car driving was not economic necessery for the society, it would have been illigal for most people and considered as a stupid action.

I would go further and extend that it's actually a point of life. When people understand that one day they will be gone, they truly rethink what they are doing with the most precious gift they were given. They start enjoying every second, they start reviewing what they want to accomplish in this short period of time, and when the time comes to be ready to say: "I did everything I wanted to do, and I'm ready to leave now". This is one of many reasons why I have started skydiving, why I want to get into BASE, why I want to experience other things before my time comes. Enjoy every second you have!

Re: [milkflyrockclimb] You NEVER know
You ask: Why can't I see any meaning in life?

What meaning are you looking for? You must be looking for a certain meaning.
You will not find it -- because from the very beginning your inquiry is polluted, your inquiry is impure. You have already decided.

For example, if a man comes into my garden and thinks if he can find a diamond there then this garden is beautiful, and he cannot find the diamond, so he says there is no meaning in the garden.... And there are so many beautiful flowers, and so many birds singing, and so many colors, and the wind blowing through the pines, and the moss on the rocks. But he cannot see any meaning because he has a certain idea: he has to find the diamond, a Kohinoor -- only then will there be meaning.

He is missing meaning because of his idea. Let your inquiry be pure. Don't move with any fixed idea. Go naked and nude. Go open and empty. And you will find not only one meaning -- you will find a thousand and one meanings. Then each thing will become meaningful. Just a colored stone shining in the rays of the sun... or a dewdrop creating a small rainbow around itself... or just a small flower dancing in the wind.... What meaning are you searching for?

Don't start with a conclusion, otherwise you have started wrongly from the very beginning. Go without a conclusion! That's what I mean when I say again and again: Go without knowledge if you want to find truth

Re: [Basjkall] You NEVER know
A old wise man sat atop a wind blow mountain just looking at his view.....I found my self sitting down beside him....not saying a word just looking out and take'in it all in....after a several min, the wind laid down and the man looked at me and said......It is wise to plan for tomorrow...but never forget we live in Today......then he gave me a handful of mushrooms asked for a quick gear check and he jumped....If you are wondering if there is a moral to this story (NO) but it is true!

I have lost one friend to suicide (drug related), two very close friends to Heroin, witnessed my Aunt waste away due to a blood disorder and watched several strangers take their last breath as an EMT in college.

What does this all have in common? Nothing. Death is so absolute it reminds us that life is a fragile, fleeting thing. Is it better to watch someone waste away in sickness, throw a life away to drugs, die in a car accident going to work, hang themselves in a barn, pile up in a heap at the base of a mountain or a DZ runway?

Lucky few have something to chase that reminds them they are living…truly living. It’s different for us all. I have guided high places in Alaska, stood on countless mountain tops, suffered in valleys, said prayers to any god that would listen while my aircraft rolled down a glacier, survived a car accident where others were not so lucky.

BASE for me has been a journey that has not yet come to fruition. I work through the steps I see as right, what others I respect and trust assure me is correct. Lending naysayer’s the same deaf ear for all the other you; shouldn’t, cant or wont.

And now, a joke (from the Fringe series)
A man goes to his doctor and ask him: Will i live longer if i cut out women, booze and party from my life?
The doctor replies; No, but it will feel longer.

I think that sums most of it up Wink
