Important mountain flyer issues rescue operation!
With wingsuits the mountain flyers have many choices to fly lines of long distance, without any control for witness to see where they will end up, if they are missing. In a big mountain terrain it can be difficult to locate where the jumper are, and life saving time can be lost during a rescue operation just to locate the jumper or just to confirm they are okay. My advice will be to to choose colours which is easy to see. Comunication with the ground crew, and fellow jumpers is very important, when you jump, and a known flightplan.

Another issue I want to discuss!
Are the jumpers responsible for the rescue team? To make sure if they have an accident, to not end up in a place where they will create a dangerous situation for the rescue team?

When a climber have an accident, it is usualy a well known climbing route, but mountain flyers can end up any place where they have no knowledge about the location. Rescue team in Norway have told me to inform jumpers, if they are stuck they have to know the operation will take time. Normal prosedyre is to search, locate, evaluate area and risk. Then prepare for a rescue with the equipment they carry onboard. When they have located you, they log the place, for then return back to a safe place to coordinate with the crew. When they leave you hanging on the spot, it does not mean they have given you up, it just means they are planning the rescue, and it will take time. If heli rescue is not possible it will be the mountain rescue team by climbers. This will delay the operation even more, if not in hours but even days. This is due to very loose rocks in Romsdalen area, that even small rocks can take out the heli, and climbers. Be prepared phsysicaly and mentally you are going to be there for a awhile while they getting ready. Also remember in Norwegian mountains the weather changes quickly, and this is very important to remember and to be made in to you conclusion about which route you are going to fly. IF Bad weather coming in, you should ease your flight, and make sure you will be home safe! Even considering not to jump! South east wind is useally no go in Romsdalen!

I know many of you will say this is BASE jumping, and it is in the nature of what we are doing, but we also have others than our selves to think about!

Wise words my friend, shit do happen so we might as well be prepared for it. To live in denial just make things worse...Wink

Make sure you have considered ALL factors before you start jumping. The pin check is probably the least important one, but still thats what jumpers are most concerned about before jumping.

Analyze everything, and remember that a base jump has a life of its own. It is very dynamic, and planning for it to happen this way or another will just put you of when your plan A is fucked. So therefore have a plan B - C - D - E .....
It is ALWAYS the jumper and not the gear who fails..
And if the gear fails, the jumper screw up when packing or assembling..
Not everybody is made of the right stuff for doing this sport, and ecpecially now with the wing suit flying proxy i wanna be cool and don`t care if I go in trying to be cool age

If you are suicidal, see a therapist
If you want a quick rush, take LSD
If you want to be cool, stay home
If you think watching Superterminal prepares you for the real stuff, good luck...

I have learned this the hard but lucky way, and in retrospect i have been an idiot many times.. And it was luck, not skills who saved my ass.. And who`s too blame? My EGO of course... The good old ego, risking your life and treasoning you every time you consider not being the coolest kid on the block..

Remember, YOU are not the EGO...

Peace,
Andreas

Well spoken. It has always bothered me when people make stupid decisions and expect others to risk their life to save them. This is not only to base jumpers, I think we assess situations better than most but it still applies. If you choose to make a poor decision and get hurt you should not expect some one to come and get you (though they probably will) especially if you are in a sketchy dangerous spot. Also I think the type of situations that you speak of where the jumpers location is unknown is a perfect situation for a personal locator. Some thing like a Spot or similar equipment. This will save time and maybe your life. Just my thought on the subject of Mountain Rescue Teams.

That video is from this year, and this is from 2005 with me and Kristian. The information is there, but there is nobody who believe what kind of forces there is out there. Me and Kristian had zero wind at the top and almost nothing at landingarea, but we did know it was SE. I have a highspeed energy track going right there and are almost flipped around twice.
