V2 BOC
Im sure this has been posted at some point but I couldnt find it. How many people use the BOC for the V2 in the base environment. Ive set up the leg pouch, but im just not feeling super great about it at the moment. Seems to be a lot that could f-up. Ive been using the BOC for skydiving, and want to figure out what im going to do before my trip in about 6 weeks.

Re: [hjumper33] V2 BOC
Why would you set that up with the leg pouch??? I'm pretty confused about that!

Re: [Flyingmike] V2 BOC
Not sure if I understand your response. I feel like a lot of people use the leg pouch for base, isnt that why its on there in the first place. Wanted to see who uses the BOC instead.

Re: [Flyingmike] V2 BOC
you are thinking of a ROL, vs a BASE PC pouch used on many wingsuits.

the day I base my judgement of BASE jumping on what I see in Perrine will be the day I quit.

look at where the PC handle is, below the container

Re: [vid666] V2 BOC
OK my bad, painting the ceiling today (fumes) and drinking a few too many micro brews and NOW it starts to come together. I thought he was referring to a BASE container and I got confused when he threw in the skydiving reference....hence I used the Perrine (as it's my only exposure to a plethora of BASE jumpers and every conceivable piece of equipment I've ever seen jumped).

I agree, you see a lot of stupid shit at the bridge, my apologies if that came off as a totally retarded reply. I didn't understand EXACTLY what he was asking. I'm just gonna go back to enjoying my paint fumes and micro-brews now while listening to Reckless Kelly....

Have a stellar trip in a few weeks!

Re: [Flyingmike] V2 BOC
Haha no worries. Now that we are on the same page, do people use that pouch that is built in to the V2, or do they use the one on the bottom of their base rig.

 Hey Charlie,

If you've already reviewed the leg pouch literature on the PF site and still feel something's not right can you elaborate more specifically on your concern? You feel it's not secure enough or too secure? To answer your question yes the leg pouch is what I always use, I've never BASEd a WS without it. The only way I could see being nervous is if you're going to use it outside of it's design intent/limits.

Re: [tr027] V2 BOC
Just reading up on the hard pull issues people have had in the past (ie ohio fatality) and also seeing how tight the pouch itself is with my 36 and how tightly I have to roll it to get it in nicely. I suppose the real answer is to get some jumps on the suit and figure out what I like more, but I just wanted to see if anyone had been doing the boc already because they felt uncomfortable with the leg pouch

Re: [hjumper33] V2 BOC
Personally I prefer the 34" vented. Up here we do have a jumper that did some jumps (both plane and BASE) using BOC on V2 but last season he switched over to leg and likes it much better. Using BOC has concerns like ruining your body position, increasing burble, and taking longer to deploy.

Re: [hjumper33] V2 BOC
I have mentioned how I dislike the decision to use ZP fabric and elastic for the leg pouch on vampires. is there a positive side to this that I do not see?

I use a vented ZP floating handle 38" on my V1, and I do NOT 'tightly' pack the PC, I try to make it as loose as possible. I also try to make the bulge of the PC directly under the elastic part of the pouch on the wingsuit. this makes it so the fabric does not have to stretch at all to pull it out, meaning it cannot 'jam' into the pouch. I also leave at least 2cm of bridal exposed on the pouch from the shrivel flap, this is so if your hand grabs the bridal, it still shrivvels the flap, as opposed to just grabbing the PC and shrivel flap, it will not shrivel and become a shear-tension hard/impossible pull.

Re: [hjumper33] V2 BOC
I think if you've been using the BOC for skydiving you should skydive with the leg pouch before WS Base with leg pouch. Not sure if you knew about Jan Davis at Yosemite, but leg pouch got someone atleast once already.

Re: [hjumper33] V2 BOC
I think you should have rigger pete set you up a bridal for plane jumping with whatever PC you plan on taking with you. That way you'll have 'tested' it and feel more comfortable. See you in Lodi soon!

Have you been painting your ceiling, too? The leg pouch definitely has gotten someone at least once already, but Jan Davis was not one of them. Crazy

I'm pretty sure his intention is to skydive it out of a plane a few times before trying it in BASE. He's asking whether or not he should make the switch or not.

I've never jumped the leg pouch myself, but after TJ's accident (5+ sec hard/missed/unknown pull problem), I spoke with many jumpers who do use it and found that an alarming number of them had one or two jumps where they had a serious issue with it. One well-known and seasoned jumper said that he had an occasion where he spent about 5 seconds just to get the PC out, and would have gone in had he not flown to the wrong landmark on accident and pulled high as a result. He now uses the BOC and said he hasn't had any problems finding the handle. Another jumper I spoke with had to pull silver on a skydive because they had a hard pull as well.

The V2 is an incredible flying machine, but I think the OP's concerns are valid. Every body & gear configuration is different, so maybe try jumping your setup with the BOC and do practice pulls in different configurations i.e. full flight, wings collapsed, right after a barrel roll, in stalled flight, etc and see if it ever poses a problem. If not, perhaps stick with the BOC until the bugs in the leg pouch are worked out.

I skim a little bit of smart off of each and every one of my posts until I have a big bowl of smart gravy and then, when the time is right, I pick one lucky post to spread it on thick. Like Barack Obama's Wealth Spread.

Re: [Ghetto] V2 BOC
Hey Ghetto, when I read his post I read, I'm going on a trip, should I use boc or leg pouch, my only experience is with boc. I didn't notice the 6 weeks and that that might mean he has time and plans on skydiving if he decides to switch to leg pouch. I guess I had been sniffing a lot of CLP cleaning crew serves.

And Jan Davis was using a throw away rig, with a leg pouch for the PC, because they knew the NPS was going to confiscate their gear as soon as they landed. Which is probably why she didn't get her PC out in time.

Happens to the best of us...

I know the story and saw the carnage tape.. but she wasn't wearing a V2 and using the wingsuit leg pouch. She went in reaching for a non-existent BOC... she was looking in the wrong place entirely.

The issues that have occurred with the V2 leg pouch are of a different nature. Rare enough to not give up a clear cause of failure, but just frequent enough to snipe away a few of our most promising and skillful jumpers when we least expected it.

If your gear setup just doesn't functionally allow or has a chance of preventing a standard BOC pull and you think the leg pouch is safer for you, then go for it. Just remember that in our sport, all new territory comes littered with landmines.
