pilots........
anyone ever rented a small cessna 172 with pilot for a day to go scope out distant areas? or im sure a helicopter would be the most ideal but fuel costs a shitload and i dont think helos can go long before having to refuel. im sure it would cost but if a few people threw in would this be manageable?

Re: [UberChris] pilots........
yup do it all the time but I am usually the one flying :) great way to find new stuff. Helicopters actually have a pretty good range depending on the type and they can land anywhere which is a plus but they cost some $$

Me and hartkor_fakker rented a bell 206 north of munich for 10 minutes, and it cost 320 euros, about $400 usd

An r22 or r44 would be a lot cheaper, but still pretty expensive, especially compared to a cessna 172. I'm not sure how it works everywhere, but we didn't have to pay for fuel. It was flight time, plus a 90 euro landing/takeoff fee per hour, and then some taxes.

Many places offer a "wet" rate that includes fuel.

As for take-off and landing fees, I think that is
more of a European thing or maybe a big airport
thing because at little municipal airports I have
never seen any toll booths.

Something a little different, but the local balloning club to me (private pilots) are more then willling to get involved in escapades, not many clifffs in bucks, but you might get a hit in your area or others

find the small local airport and see who's around. i see/meet old timers all the time at some of the airports we land at. they are always good for some crazy story of the "old days" and if your lucky maybe someone will take you for a few circles around your object in exchange for fuel.

other option is the heli pilot/base jumper group. maybe your near one of us and we can try and find you a good rate on a helicopter
