  Yes, be careful.

Should I be careful living there,
visiting there, BASE jumping there,
or all of the above? Wink

Re: [GreenMachine] Yakima, WA
All of the above. If you are in the area for a while and get to drive around a bit there will be one very obvious jumpable object. It's pretty high bust though. A lot of traffic in the area at all times of day. The first time I jumped it was with tr027. As we were leaving the area an ambulance and a cop rolled in. Second time I jumped it, someone was taking pictures of me. Unsure

The area isn't horrible, but it has pretty high crime and a large spanish speaking population.

Would have pm'd this, but I figured it's good info for anyone that comes to the area. If you decide to jump it, have a good exit plan, there are a few options.

Re: [GreenMachine] Yakima, WA
Jumped the object 2 months ago, very high visibility high bust potential. Scout it carefully. There also may be some dirty low Es in the area with serious access problems and other Es that get jumped but are way too low for me. BTW I really liked the jump, I may be back over there later this year.

Fun jump with a pretty good landing... Make a fast egress though

Re: [d_goldsmith] Yakima, WA
Might as well do it like you own it. Just Nowhere to be halfassed stealthy around there. 3 of us jumped it 10 years ago @ Noon-time Easter Sunday morning .Pretty busy place for being in nowhereville. by the way, when you follow the cow trail at the bottom. and you cross over a old rusty dilapidated fence that is laying-over on the ground . on That side of the fence ( I Believe) is Fed. airforce property and I think is part of NORAD defense also.

Re: [RayLosli] Yakima, WA
I forgot to mention that. Not sure about fed airforce or norad, but some of the land is part of Yakima Training Center (YTC) an Army Installation. I did some of my PreDeploymentTraining there.

I know this thread is as old as the dinosaurs...

but I live in Yakima and I am wondering what things you guys jumped off of. I have noticed a few ~250 A's and a couple B's probably around 170 feet. I am curious as to what you guys did!
Shortcut
Re: [cheeseman543] Yakima, WA
Sp*n, very well known. The B's I remember are lower than 170 and looked like bad ideas.

Re: [Martini] Yakima, WA
dude Don't talk to the ( no profile & 1st post ) guys .

Especially if asking questions about an object that is pretty obvious what & where if you did live there & knew anything about BASE .

Re: [RayLosli] Yakima, WA
Fair enough Ray, but other than the object type I gave away nothing. Considering the location I'd say the local LE are pretty much heads up about it, a warning to anyone reading this still stands; super high bust potential. I got around that by jumping in conditions only a lunatic would consider, also having a snivel with a six second ride so no one could see the canopy was a carefully planned part of the jump.

Re: [Martini] Yakima, WA
No worries . just weird's me-out with people with no profile & just logging-in & digging-up a 3 year old Thread, then asking obvious questions .
If you lived there as the poster said . No way to not know what object this thread is talking about . unless you know nothing about the subject .

Ya hard to stay hidden jumping that object . I had my 1st 180 off that object with strong head wind . I exited in real crouched position & bad body positioning . That LZ gets pretty narrow the lower you get into it .
.

Re: [RayLosli] Yakima, WA
And let's not forget the LZ littered with scrap metal, broken glass and other surprises. Smile Considering the downsides at this object I still like it, I have at least one friend who doesn't agree though.

Re: [cheeseman543] Yakima, WA
Looks like with good 5.10 climbing shoes one could scale up below and be a bit more stealthy rather than going all the way up from top.

Re: [base388] Yakima, WA
Good luck getting up the arch and around the pillars without setting some bolts...haha

Re: [SBCDave] Yakima, WA
Go Big! ......Someone will do it. ;))
Shortcut
Re: [base388] Yakima, WA
With how much traffic the visitor area gets, it's probably higher bust to go that route, even if the bolts were already set. Does seem like fun though : )

Re: [SBCDave] Yakima, WA
They just need to follow Twin Falls! ;))

Re: [SBCDave] Yakima, WA
But really, there's no way it would be that hard to park at the visitor center, walk across the bridge, jump over the rail, walk back up the hill and get away in your car parked at the visitor center. Then again, I'm no BASE jumper, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

You were right. My bad.

Why not? There's so many nice spots... if you find a nice time of good weather. It's not even that hard, just go in June-August and you'll run into some beautiful weather. I'd have to almost say the PNW is the most-similar-to-norway area in the US.
