Re: [skycam321] Then there was this a Time /Dolly Parton Look a Like ! / Second Night
The other night I was on the Great American Bank Tower (really a building) in Blank Blank. It's one of those short, but stupidly pointy buildings that are popular now. The scaffolding is still on it and it put me about hundred feet above where I'd hit it. I sat for a few moments trying to bring myself to do it. And I couldn’t.
I did that three nights in a row and climbed back down all three times. It was just too spooky or something. The LZ was a fat, a wide open and clear of wires parking lot. I had a decent enough pack job. And I stood there and almost went a dozen times but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I had the freaking BASE hibbee jibbies . . .
The fourth time, I bicycled down, again all alone. I hid my bike behind a dumpster and climbing the fence the security guard saw me. By the time he started after me I double timed it up to fifth floor and looked for a place to hide. Usually they don't climb up after you. But this guy did. He came within five feet of where I was hiding but he didn't sense my presence. I guess you can't buy intuitiveness for eight buck an hour.
I waited around 15 minutes and started climbing again. And the higher I went the windier it became. You know, you always tell yourself, the higher you get the windier it will be. But it was seriously blowing now. I stopped to rest in the darkened stairwell and smoked a cigarette. I was on the 30th floor with three more to go. The last two floors were just naked steel and I climbed a workman's ladder to the top.
I naturally walked to the downwind side and looked over the edge. There was a parking lot I could make. It was 33 stories down. It looked so far but at the same time so close. I opened my stash bag and took out my rig.
I was stowed, but then thought better of it. No one was going to see me so I pulled out the pilot chute to hold in my hand. Any extra steps you can eliminate on a BASE jump is golden, isn't it?
I took a deep breath and went . . .
